Copa Talento - What your DMV Club Does Not Want you to know

What do you mean by nothing is happening?
You expect a half-time show by Taylor Swift?

I think the poster is referring to all of the hype on the scouting at Copa Talento. All of the personal trainers and Instagram coaches that put teams together tell all the parents that it is really great exposure to scouts.

Mainly U8 and occasionally U9. They like to identify talent early and bring them into their professional academies before bad habits are built. By U10 its too late and habits are ingrained.

MLS Next players are going to a summer pick-up tournament expecting to be seen by scouts more than MLS Next tournaments?

This is absolutely not true.

I don’t think that is too much to ask for tbh.

There are scouts there. It’s true. It’s a handful, and like a PP mentioned, focused on Latino / Hispanic players. The scouts are from two buckets; academy and college.

For the vast majority of the kids, the benefit is good quality touches in a different and festive tournie environment.

Did those scouts check out the u-littles? Yes! Were the u-littles the focus? No! And good new folks, the intagram families sort of disappear after u-little when their kids underperform the billing (not the kids fault, it’s their parents overselling) - so the “exposure” focus those academy / instagram coaches claim has some truth to it, but not much value behind it.

So what happens when these young children are scouted? It’s seems to me they are then highlighted on some trainers Instagram and then reshared by their parent-managed account and maybe they get to play in another summer pick up tournament, or get invited to and “elite” Instagram trainer session.

The best eight-year-old’s at Copa Talento are awarded Academy contracts.

If clubs are obsolete soon, what are you training them to do, be future trainers?

Honestly, this is Christian’s plan with False 8. He is looking to start his own club eventually.
