Exactly...let them practice on SOLs now (which will matter for 10% of their grade in a couple of years) for other high stakes exams later in their education. |
This thread is timely. My dd (who is definitely an anxious perfectionist- it's something we're working on), came home crying because of all the stress on her 3rd grade SOLs. DH and I told her that we didn't care even a tiny bit how well she did on it and that it only counts for her teacher and school.
I HATE that this is how they evaluate teachers. If they're going to force kids to cram and study for days for these tests and then work them up about eating breakfast and going to bed early, can't it at least count towards their grade? |
Thank you Rep Helmer for posting this! |
I don’t understand parents connecting the opinion that they think the SOL is meaningless to teachers telling their students to eat well and be well rested.
The kids have to take the SOL unless you opt them out. The test takes several hours, and snack times as well as lunch times are often rescheduled. Teachers are just trying to help kids from getting hangry and throwing fits during the test that you didn’t pot your kid out of. |
Sure, if "everyone" is ~5%. You have a small bubble. |
