Stop. I've watched more than one match and the "strategy" is to boot it long to the right wing and hope she could out run the girl marking her and corral the ball.

In case you were wondering, she could not effectively do either. And yes, this is an ECNL team.

This wasn't the discussion. I'm ok with fast direct football when necessary. It can be superior to 25 sideways and backwards passes which do nothing.

I was responding to, I am assuming a parent, saying other clubs teach "kickball", whilst claiming Arlington "develops" players.

I agree it’s generally wrong to treat teenagers this way but I don’t disagree with hard truths being dealt to kids these days. There is far too much coddling in every essence of parenting today; guilty and self aware here too. With all said sport can still be our last meritocracy and that means cutting kids on the spot no explanation necessary. This is why our family values competitive sports leagues like ECNL/GA/MLSN there are numerous lessons to be learned from failing short of your goals

Criticizing someone's immutable characteristics is just gamesmanship and not mean? Making fun of a girl's looks isn't mean? It's something she can't help because of genetics. Is it okay to make fun of girl who is a different race? It's the same thing, genetics. The kid can't change it. This is absolutely mean girl!

A kids clothes aren't as nice or her hair isn't done to what the Arlington girls think is a good standard? Maybe this kid's parents have to work or just don't get into that sort of thing. Also mean girl type of stuff unless you think poor shaming is just a lark.

If you think any of this is ok, you need to have a long look at yourself in the mirror. After that, if you still think it's not a big deal, you should post your name. Why not? It's nothing to be ashamed of, right?

Yes. This allows the existing girls to meet the ones taking their place.

If your daughter is on an ECNL team, she likely by U13 and certainly by U15 knows 50% of the girls on other ECNL clubs locally from private training, strengthening, ID camps, etc

What I love is when they head the ball on goalie kicks. It is so fun to watch them head it back and forth 4-5 times while accomplish nothing. Just like long balls in to the defense.

I applaud this! And I am honestly astounded (although I shouldn’t be given where are nation is these days) at all the people who replied to you a that you and your child should just toughen up.

Yes, competitive sports teach valuable life lessons. Maybe some of the most important ones. And in fact the company I work for had an entire program themed on the fact that great athletes make great leaders! But there is a HUGE difference between teaching life lessons (even hard ones) in an appropriate way vs just being mean and obnoxious about it. That is not the only (or the right) way to convey these life lessons to our children.

WE SHOULD NEVER NORMALIZE UNNECESSARILY MEAN BEHAVIOR.

Of all the things I have read on this forum (many of which are borderline insane, of course - we are quite the crowd here at DCUM), the responses given to this post depress me the most about our world these days.

Please don’t be like those Arlington coaches. Or any of the Arlington parents in this group saying it is ok and the kids should just toughen up.

Please instead be the ones that help our kids learn the tough lessons through kindness and empathy. This is what will make them a better person (and leader) when they grow up.

Good that you’re not going back again. What’s wrong with that? They are trying to form a strong team with talent and mental toughness. Only strong people will survive in the real world. Please take your soft kid somewhere else—you definitely don’t belong here. Other kids who need it more will take the spot.

Proving the rotten apple does not fall far from the rotten tree. Rest easy knowing your DDs spot was offered to our DDs and they turned it down because even a normal 13 year old can recognize a cess pit, even if you can’t. But if you can’t recognize the issues this team is facing, I bet you are the problem. Maybe you can call Captain Arlington in to help motivate your girls. We would all love to see that nonsense again. 🤣. Idiots.
