Is the Target Boycott Really Effective?

Anonymous
I was a discount retail manager for 8 years. Target and Walmart both promote workers with only a high school degree to Manager. Managers can make $250,000 or more. Very few industries offer this growth to those with only high school degrees.

The discount industry employs a lot of African Americans, women and Hispanic workers.

Your boycott hurts those who need paychecks.

I want them to get paychecks for $30/hour instead of $15/hour. They should apply to Costco, which is hiring.

This is almost as bad as maga maggots nonsense.

Yes people are actually choosing not to spend money in a store that went back on their commitment. But the Supreme Court says money is speech so no, it’s not nonsense, it’s a clear non-violent message to Target to do better, and to retailers like Costco that maintaining those programs is financially beneficial.

“maga maggots nonsense” would be if they held a riot.

It sounds like you are ideological and lack critical thinking skills if you actually think that affirmative action isn't discriminatory. You don't even seem to acknowledge who has been tearing up cities recently. There are ways to become less intellectually lazy, but it has to come from within.

I didn’t say anything about affirmative action. I said Target went back on a commitment they made and are seeing the outcome of that choice. They’re paying for their commitment to your ideology.

They removed their diversity, equity, and inclusion policies after making a big show for years of having them.

I've started shopping at Costo instead. Their board decided to keep their DEI policies, but the Trump admin is trying to bully companies into getting rid of them.

OP

Costco discriminates against Asians. Don't shop there.

Sure,.sure

- Asian

How? The DC Costco customer base is approximately 1/3 Asian shoppers. And those are the ones that are easily identifiable as Asian, so it could be greater.

You're talking about the Pentagon City one, not the DC one, which is mostly black.

Eh. Target should have thought about that before they turned on women, black people and Hispanics, as well as lgbt people.

Costco pays $30+ dollars an hour.

At any rate, once Republicans are through with us, most Americans won't be able to afford to recreationally shop or eat out, so it doesn't really matter in the long run.

LOL, NP here. You may wanna point that finger back at yourself. DEI is not affirmative action. I worked in the field and have first-hand knowledge of it. DEI is very different and has nothing to do with individual hiring or quotes. So, there is someone intellectually lazy or lacking, but it is the person in your mirror.

Yes, so many workers there making $250K. LOL. You know that Walmart consistently underemploys workers, so that they disproportionately rely on federal assistance programs? And, Trump would like the Waltons to profit even more over you. It's a raw deal for you and taxpayers, if you ask me.

You are right. DEI is worse than affirmative action since DEI expands on the AA.

DP. DEI benefitted white women most. Sadly, for all women.

DEI encompasses a lot of different policies (easier to obfuscate what they are really doing or their intentions), no doubt. You are going to tell me that Targets DEI policies didn't include affirmative action? You know damn well that the same people supporting DEI policies are the same ones supporting affirmative action. It simply a rebranding of quotas. Once those became illegal, they pivoted to affirmative action policies, and now it's DEI. But we know they are still trying to achieve the same goal and will do whatever they can get away with legally to achieve it. People who aren't partisan or ideological can't see it for what it is because they lack objectivity.

Too bad! Hope the boycott forces them to close. MAGA does not care why should anyone else.

Yeah. I think you had your position right the first time.

But let’s pretend everything you said is accurate. So what? Money is speech. The people who don’t want to spend money somewhere that backed away from DEI are exercising their first amendment rights. I thought conservatives were all for that?
