Why are US and Russia meeting unilaterally to resolve Russia-Ukraine conflict

Anonymous
European officials are working to put together a multibillion dollar package aimed at boosting collective security in the region and supporting Ukraine in what will be the largest of its kind so far, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said over the weekend.

Speaking to Bloomberg on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, which ran from February 14 to 16, Baerbock said the huge defense package "has never been seen in this dimension before."

German daily newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported that Baerbock said the package could be worth some 700 billion euros ($732 billion); however, that figure wasn't in the Bloomberg article cited by the publication at the time of writing.

Why is Trump saying that Ukraine started the conflict: “Today I heard: ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited’,” the US president said. “Well, you’ve been there for three years . . . you should have never started it. You could have made a deal.” (FT.com)

Is he just parroting the lines that Putin is feeding him? Is he so unaware?

And this will be another of Trump's accumulating failures. This negotiation is pointless without Ukraine and Europe's involvement.

I find I can’t read about this situation. It makes me sick. Trump is literally siding with our enemy and removing the government apparatus to fight Russia. It’s sickening.

Trump is setting the stage to abandon both Ukraine and the entire western alliance. He and Putin are putting together a "peace plan" that will be a complete betrayal of both Ukraine and Europe. The terms will be unacceptable - Ukraine will lose nearly a third of its land, most of its rare earth mineral rights, there will be no meaningful security guarantees, there will be an "election" to install a pro-Russia puppet in Kyiv, sanctions will be lifted on Russia, new deals will be signed with Gazprom and other Russian energy entities, and for good measure the United States will pull all forces from the Baltics.

Neither Ukraine nor Europe can agree to these terms. So the United States will abandon both and pursue an alliance with Russia. NATO is effectively dead. And the entire post WWII alliance and security system is no more. A new era begins. The US will pull all its forces from Europe. Europe, the UK, and Canada will scramble to build up their militaries and we can count on WWIII beginning in about three years when Russia has rearmed and invades the Baltics. The US will be regarded as an enemy and an ally of imperial Russia.

It's a disaster.

Trump siding with Russia, blaming Ukraine for Russia’s invasion and purporting to negotiate an end to the war without Ukraine present is so deeply offensive and so dangerous to our security. And weak Marco Rubio doing this fool’s bidding when he knows better is the perfect symbol of the dead Republican Party.

Looks like he's not ready yet to admit we started the conflict when we overthrew Ukraine's democratic government in 14.

I hope all the people who vehemently denied that Trump was Putin’s stooge can admit it now.

Right! It’s very clear now. It was clear in Helsinki years ago to anyone with half a brain.

It's even more blatant when you consider that Russia's chief negotiator in Riyadh was Dmitry Rybolovlev, the same oligarch that paid Trump $95 million for a property in Palm Beach back in 2008, when no one could sell property. That $95 million was more than three times what that property was optimistically worth. The corruption of Trump and the GOP has no precedent in US history.

If the US is pulling out, then Germany will have to go nuclear. And then Poland. And then... I wish Trump weren't moron who has now decided to surround himself with morons.

Trump has no say in the “peace plan”. Trump is Putin’s useful moron and says “yes sir” to anything Putin tells him to do.

Sounds like they are meeting bilaterally.
