Not at all. W&M has a college feel at 6,500 students. GMU has a university feel at 27,000 undergrads. GMU offers programs no other university in the Commonwealth does. My DS went there (loved it -lived in the dorms all four years) for its Game Design major. The hot cyber security major is only offered only at GMU. (The legislature does this on purpose). GMU's computer science, engineering and econ departmebts are impressive. Interesting GMU's law school is ranked around 28; W&M's is in the 60s

More different than any subjective notion of "vibe" could be are the admissions criteria of GMU and any of the t3 Virginia public schools.

Very low test submitting percent at GMU compared to Virginia Tech, W&M, UVA. Median test scores are far lower than these three too. Vibe should be the least of anyone's concerns when choosing between GMU, JMU, VCU, etc. and the t3.

Stat wise, GMU is not that different to JMU, but people seem to hate on GMU more simply because of the location.

GMS > JMU in USNWR ranking.

US News is a bumbling failed magazine. The two schools are very comparable.

Most GMU faculty have degrees from schools that DCUMers worship so I find it interesting that they shun the school due to the acceptance rate. The area is lucky to have a school with these resources that is accessible to more students.

Threads by GMU are always shockingly civil and restrained. Way worse things are said about UVA and William and Mary than GMU on this page.

We live close and I think it’s just that at the high school get lots of other colleges come in to visit school that seem more appealing. Some kids want the destination of the big 10 sports, or the artsy-school if that’s their thing. Some want the W&M traditional vibe. Being local just feels like another big building stop off the beltway like going to walk around Tyson’s, it’s just among the tons of things there are to do around here.

The Schar School of Public Policy is highly respected.
GMU also has a very good nursing program.
It has been an under-rated school for a very long time, finally starting to get some of its due recognition.
