I suspect that a lot of these supporters are the same person posting.

then why did the site administrator only call out his "enemies"? Twice the site administrators had reported people posting the same response or posting and then "responding" to a post. Ha!Nope, Dr. A just has that many supporters. Accept it. Now if thats what his "enemies" are doing, thats just a real shame.

Just to clarify, I called out what I thought to be a particularly egregious case of sockpuppetry in which two very similar messages were sent from the same IP address within two minutes of each other. I just happened to notice this at that time. However, I have since taken a more careful look through the messages (well over 100 at this point), and I can say that both sides are doing their part to "stuff the ballot box". It is not fair to say that one side is better or worse than the other.

I do want to commend all posters (with a single exception whose posts have been removed) for keeping the level of discourse high. There has been a concentration on factual information and personal experience rather than name-calling or other uncivil behavior. We are in a bit of a tricky position when we allow anonymous posters to attack a named individual -- particularly when that individual is likely constrained in his ability to defend himself. However, I think there has not been an abuse of anonymity in this thread and there has been a general respect for differing viewpoints. Let's keep it up.

I am the original poster. Over the weekend we got a letter from Dr. Alalouf stating that he is going to be out May-Sept. to take classes to further his education and to spend time with his family. I cannot believe he sent this. It is one thing to say nothing, it is another to send something out making it seem like you are going to be out by choice when nothing could be further from the truth. I, too, had a hard time seeing how his actions were in alignment with the personality I knew from seeing him in the office, but to me this letter says VOLUMES about his character.

In response to your last post, this was his statement, as for the letter, we too were upset, but we are both attorneys and we know that sometimes you are not allowed to say anything. We cant speculate to why that letter was sent but knowing Dr. A, he's not dumb, he knew the truth was out, maybe he just needed to inform his patients of his leave before he was really "able" to. Who knows???

After being charged with violations by the Maryland Dental Board, and after consultation with my attorneys, I agreed to a Consent Order to resolve those accusations. We did not negotiate any terms of the factual findings and do not necessarily agree with each and every factual statement. I found cavities on examination of some patients, and some other dentists did not see those cavities when looking at the x-rays. The Board did not like the amount of times I used general anesthesia for young patients, even though the parents had agreed that such treatment was best for their children.

I have resolved these charges with the Board. I have been suspended from May 2 to August 31, 2008. During this time, I will be taking educational courses. I will return to my office and continue to practice dentistry on September 2, 2008.

We support Kids Teeth and always will!

Thank you family of attorneys! you stated the obvious... I'm sure there is so much Dr. Alalouf and his staff want to say, but are not allowed to. We all have to remember this is a legal case, and I'm sure he is very limited on what he can talk about. I'm proud of everyone who is sticking by him, and posting all of you wonderful experiences you have had there. If things were as bad as everyone is making it out to be he wouldnt be practicing again... 4 months is not an extremly long time. My kids, and my sister's kids and my cousin's kids are all staying... we believe in Dr. Alalouf, Dr.Madani, and all of the wonderful people at Kids Teeth.

Last thing, one post asked if this happens to other dentists and we just don't knowabout it. The answer is YES! If you go to the dental board website you can look up all of the dentists in our area who have had suspension, and other actions taken against them for a million different reasons. This just seems to have blown up, i think partly due to his popularity.

In respone to the last post, this was posted a couple days ago, maybe you should take a look.................maybe its not his character is not the one that speaks VOLUMES.

I am very much in support of Dr. A. I asked about the letter and was told the wording was specifically on advisement of his lawyer. Many of us are not Public Relations people. We have to follow the advice we are given - whether we agree or not.

As for these postings - I think those of us in support should stop posting. It is just continuing the argument. My suspicion is that if those of us who are supporters stop posting, those who are anti-Dr. A will have no one to post "against" and this posting will lose it's flame and die out. Let's stop the discussion. We know how we feel. Our support can be given in more productive ways at this point - such as keeping our appointments and offering support to Dr. A's family during this very tough time.

Does anyone have a picture of Dr. Alalouf? Please contact my colleague Ross McLaughlin at rmclaughlin@wjla.com or call 703-236-9472 if you have a picture of Dr. Alalouf or any additional information about this. I am a parent who works for WJLA-TV and my kids saw him last week. I was not told about the suspension until reading it here. I received a letter in the mail which only states he is taking time off and nothing about the suspension. Thank you to whoever started this post. I will be searching for a new pediatric dentist.

I find this all very disturbing on many levels. I too am a lawyer and understand that many people settle to avoid the toll of a drawn out hearing which can be taxing both emotionally and financially. This, however, seems like a pretty stiff penalty to agree to if there is no truth to the allegations. However, even with all of that, I was considering remaining with the practice as we have been happy with them. However, what I find most disturbing is that yesterday we received a letter from the practice letting us know that Dr. A would not be away from the practice until August. I no longer have the letter but it said he was leaving for further education and to spend time with his family. If the practice had been honest about what is occurring, I could see staying but that letter seals the deal for me.

I got that letter from him too. I'd already decided to look for another dentist, and the letter did nothing to change my mind.

This whole thread has got me thinking -- it's hard for a professional to move past these kinds of allegations in the age of the internet. It's hard to defend against allegations too. OTOH it's also difficult for patients to get good information. Some people above have argued that most dentists have complaints against them. That may be true, who knows? I think the dental board should publish statistics the way the BBB does -- number of resolved/unresolved complaints vs number of years in practice and size of practice. That would make it easier to evaluate the situation by comparing the number of complaints against different dentists. However, since I don't have that info, my only recourse is to find another practice.

Last year, Dr Alalouf told my wife our four year old at the time had six cavities. We got a second opinion and was told she only had 2. We switched practices and never looked back.

As a parent, I would suggest that before subjecting your young child to any traumatic medical procedure, get a second opinion and make your own decision.

Anyone needing a new pediatric dentist - here is a fabulous one:

Dr. Mark Barren – he is low –key, has an understated office (not an arcade) and is more like a “family business”. He is gentle, thorough, clean and a great guy. He clearly doesn't need to overcharge to keep up a playground in his office.

I am sure Dr. Mark Barren is a fine dentist however I have heard from former patients of his that he has been bad mouthing Dr. Alalouf for years and to me that is enough to not want to support such unprofessional behvavior. Food for thought if you feel it necessary to search for a new dentist. As for me we will stick by the dentist we have come to know and love for years, Dr. Alalouf.

Sounds like Dr. Barren knew what he was talking about.

I am not a patient of Dr. Alalouf nor Dr. Barren, but this seems fishy to me that there is this much hype in the media and on these sites.

Although I've never had a bad experience at Kids' Teeth and found Dr. A to be friendly to the kids during most visits, I always felt like he was pushing me to do x-rays and sealants for my kids. From the time we started going when my oldest child was about 2 years old, he was pushing for x-rays. When I declined, I was made to feel like I wasn't making a good decision for my children (even though I felt completely comfortable with my decision.). It's always bothered me how much the Kids' Teeth dentists and staff have emphasized things that may not be entirely necessary.
