Baby Reindeer on Netflix

There’s no public record of the stalker and the (failed) comic who only garnered attention through this story as performance art seems way too accepting of everything that happened.

I’m guessing it never really happened and his show (first the live one man show and now this series) is hugely fictionalized. And that’s not a stretch given what he’s shared publicly about himself.

Anyhoo, the show is a typical British production: weird story that skews dark/twisted with mostly good acting. It was overly sexual and needlessly so. I feel like Netflix really bakes shock value into their content to pull viewers.

This.

The media mogul guy was a total loser every weekend too.

Teach your kids to extract themselves from dangerous or uncomfortable situations no matter what, any way possible.

It is harder to watch from episode 4-6. I don't really recommend it unless you have a high tolerance for sexual assault, drug use, mentally unwell people.

No one is likeable and the story is not redeemable. Nor does it have a solid ending. Trauma porn, and I have a high tolerance, with no triggers, and still found it off-putting and not enjoyable.

+1

I need to get this show off my browser feeds.

Genius how he threw away his nice girlfriend from acting class and then nice Teri.

The constant self sabotage is his addiction. He didn’t have to go on a polymorphous bender

Piers Morgan just interviewed the woman who the show allegedly depicts, and she comes across just like the character. You can watch the interview on YouTube.

Main character is Donny and he’s messed up. Doesn’t really look 25 yo either

If you don’t have your own positive values and sense of self then you are prone to latching on to Bad Actors and Bad Influences. In high school, or college or adult life. Sad.

It’s a sad show with a few sad, very broken characters.

Why sit there like a puppy every weekend and try every drug? Blow off all healthy, functional people in your life.

Just say no thanks.

I hope the main character in real life gets the mental health and physical health (STD) help he needs.

Apparently nothing in his age 0-18 childhood was abusive, traumatic or sexual so he really stuck to it in his 20s. And none of it was a helpless trauma bond situation. It was truly self induced. Which is exactly why it’s viewed as consensual, legally, socially, psychologically.

Now he’ll make a few bucks on Netflix. Gross.

It doesn’t glorify the life of drugs, sex, and entertainment but it certainly stays on that lifestyle.

I looked it up after, and it definitely seems real. People think they found the stalker using twitter.

I honestly don't know how either actor could have done the rape scene. It was just so, so horribly gruesome.

Then the gullible, go take a shower and wash away the proof. Every weekend.

Maybe I’m not far enough along but it was not porn or shown, it was blurry, short, and just the end. Plus the “victim” was heavily drugged.
Is that a thing in non-monogomous gay men’s lives to do? Who knows.

Where is any of his family parents or siblings or friends during any of this?

This is an up and leave the city type of situation.

No

The promise of entering showbiz is too alluring to many. This is based on many true stories not just one actor’s experience .

Ahh. That’s the plot line.

No the plot line is messed up people doing messed up things.

If they want to try to blame it on seeking stardom, I call BS.

Doesn’t press charges against the rapist AND hangs out with him after his epiphany…and agrees to work with him?

Weird.

Yeah this was weird

He says it though, he reports the stalker but not the rapist

Yeah, they got together to write THIS show and sell it to Netflix.

Well done! Great framework!

Go F up your life and body, then sell it to Netflix.

While that is likely true at some level, and did lead to many destructive behaviors, it was his deep need to be "desired" - via fame, via an unhealthy relationship with an abusive groomer, via him leading on a clearly unstable stalker, that really guided so many of his bad decisions. He was willing to put himself in physical danger as long as he got that dopamine hit from what he viewed as being wanted. The Terri character read him for filth during their breakup scene.

Good,
Hope so.
