I would not call it overly woke, but since one of the qualities they try to instill in their graduates is kindness , I would describe it is a welcoming (/gentle) community (versus being judgmental).

It is extremely woke.

Plus, it’s rural. Ew!
Horrible, Miskito-ridden location.

I think the coming decade is going to be rough for a lot of the regional universities (private and public) and specialty schools (e.g., art institutes, culinary schools, Catholic schools that aren't among the 'big names'). I don't think we have evidence it's going to be rough for national liberal arts colleges--especially not those ranked in the top 100 like Juniata. Some have had belt-tightening (just like many other types of colleges/universities), but so far all that have experienced some financial pressure, quickly right the boat. I think one of their strengths is that their educational model isn't built on growth--rather it's built on sustaining. Some larger universities with grad programs etc. need to keep growing enrollment, keep expanding program, keep building out the research and tech budget. But these undergraduate small institutions just need to keep their operations going. I'm not saying it's going to be all smooth sailing for them or anything, but I don't think they are the most threatened part of higher ed.

I suspect they can properly spell mosquito, however.

I’m 100% certain that you and your kid didn’t go to Harvard. So strange to be angry about a thread where someone asks for feedback…and gets it. What’s your problem? I also know nothing about the school but was interested to hear feedback as I think a rural LAC could be a good fit for my kid.

Ok, I was trying to parse this out, and somehow all I could come up with was “Mitski-ridden.”

My kiddo was accepted to the 3+1 BS/MS with their highest level scholarship. He also was accepted to Washington College. He is waiting to hear from College of Wooster, Allegheny, a d Mary Washington before he decides anything.

Wow I was just gonna post “do we really have to revive a Juniata thread” when I saw the first response was from someone who used “kiddo.”

We definitely do not have to revive this thread!

My 80-something-year-old mother-in-law still answers the phone “Hi, kiddo!” when my 55-year-old husband calls her. Get over yourself. If you don’t like “kiddo” then don’t call your kid that. Other people can call their kids whatever they and the kids are fine with.

Stay classy, DCUM (rolls eyes).

Did you or your kid go there? There is not even a water feature on campus?

Trying my best to ignore the psycho...

they seem to be doing fine. Student body is growing, facilities are being updated, they've added programs and are considering additional programs (nursing is the big one being evaluated), recent fundraising seems to be successful, both generally and for targeted programs.

Really IME the worst thing about the school is a crappy location. But we certainly visited schools that DD rejected for even worse locations. Still, she thinks the location is fine and she turned down what others might think are better options because this felt right to her. I've gotten used to nobody knowing it, unless they are from PA or have kids that play volleyball.

There are definitely worse locations.

There is an Amtrak station in town.

It is a convoluted way to get to the DMV (over to Philly, then down here), but we opted for it several times when my kid had work to do and I did not feel like driving (see Thanksgiving weekend!).
