Same. Liked the smaller size

No, no. Didn’t you get the memo? The only possible explanation for picking WM over UVA is that your kid must be “quirky.” 😀

That is so on point with dcum!

As a VT grad, I was sort of flabbergasted by the number of guys in full on khakis, vests, polos for just partying at the clubs on a random college night to the bars when we recently visited. I mean my kids wear that to their private school for dress code, but not typically what they hang out in when not in school or a night out with friends. Do all the schools dress like this or is this still a UVA thing? My son is an athlete, but gets turned off by an overly 'bro' culture so not sure the fit is there.

You need to up your game if you’re going to lie here.

Kids don’t even go out to the bars until 10-11 PM. You’re saying as a parent bringing a kid to tour, you went out to the Corner bars that late? Ha. No.

Only based on what is posted, I think they are about the same with McLean having a slight edge. However, I can't say that either school looks truly impressive. Again, most kids have not posted. Not sure about the comment regarding kids wanting to post this year.

How do these stack up to TJ? Many parents claim TJ hurts their kid's chances. If TJ outshines the top schools like McLean, then I'm assuming their claims are unfoudned.

TJ's page had an incredibly low number of kids post (atleast so far). But TJ does not seem to be any more impressive than McLean or Langley. Honestly, a lot of schools in NOVA seem to show similar results.

Most likely even more than 50 kids probably had the stats to get accepted but I assume that UVA (or any state school) probably has a limit on how many from each school can be accepted. NOVA tends to have the highest stat kids. So kid #60 from a NOVA school could have probably been admitted if they lived in another county in Virginia.

Please do not send your NOVA kids off to UVA with this attitude. It will not serve them well academically or socially. The awakening will be rude.

Some hotels are right on the Corner. And, we were walking the campus and around at that time--yes.

Curious which FCPS school(s) had more than 50 students in the class of 2024 accepted to UVA?

If there are at least 14 committed kids who posted on the McLean Insta page, then I would think that at least 2 or 3 times that number got admitted ( but haven't decided, are going elsewhere or just not posting). It does seem like most who committed were early decision admits.

Probably not all, but TJ newspaper reported 44 from class of 23

So in state. Do you know which school? Arts and Sciences? Engineering?

UVA would have been a first choice, but my kid got waitlsted while lower stat kids were accepted.

In the meantime, my kid was accepted with merit to multiple equivalent or higher ranked schools from out of state, such as Michigan.

If they were offered a waitlist spot now, they would turn it down.

This is my 2nd kid in 3 years that this has happened to at UVA (waitlisted while lower stat kids were accepted.)

It has really soured me on UVA.

Congrats to those who moved off the waitlist!

Even “lowly” ACHS has 10 going to UVA already!

McLean typically has 60-70 students admitted to UVA each year.

My brother in law didn’t go to UVA, but went to W&M with the same attitude. He said basically the same thing you did; he had a rude awakening.
