Because there are thousands of people in the county who won’t do their research and will pick the Democrat/mom/pretty white woman/Jewish name without knowing a thing about her.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if she has money pouring in from conservatives across the country who will see her winning in blue MoCo as some sort of coup.

That won’t happen. She’s tinfoil and you sound tinfoil too.

Then why don’t you take the time to educate yourself about her rather than making a super pointless comment on DCUM?

I think if you're trying to convince people of something but you come across as a little deranged, it's useful to get feedback on it so you can do a better job in the future. But if the goal of the post was not to be convincing but rather to scream into the void, I agree with you that my comment was pointless.

A bit of sanity in this otherwise insane thread.

I agree that not having kids in public school should disqualify her. The rest of it comes off as unhinged.

And I'm generally leaning right, and I don't send my kids to PS either, but it seems very basic to require a child in the system to be on the board.

I'm afraid I have to disagree as do our laws. She has every right to serve the public and improve schools.

Nope. She has every right to be a candidate for Board of Education. Then the voters will decide.

+1 She has the right to run, but the voters have the right to know that she does not have kids in public schools, nor has she ever had them, nor does she intend to have them.

Voters also have the right to know that she's on record as a registered Republican, and that registering as a Democrat is disingenuous.

Finally, voters have the right to know that she has publicly defended Nazis. For many voters, that's an absolute dealbreaker and they deserve to have that information when they go to the ballot box.

People change parties all the time. Trump used to be a Democrat. Do you have a citation for her defending Nazis? It's odd because I'd heard she is practicing Jew.

"We need to start befriending Neo-Nazis", August 24, 2017: https://forward.com/opinion/380510/we-need-to-start-befriending-neo-nazis/ For reference, the "Unite The Right" rally in Charlottesville was August 11–12, 2017.

Seems like a pretty reasonable piece to me. A plea for compassionate outreach to those who hate in order to change their mind published in one of the oldest Jewish newspapers in the country. The title is unfortunate, but is the kind of click bait that editors, who choose the titles of pieces like this, assign the pieces to maximize readership.

Well, bless your heart. How many Neo-Nazis have you befriended, and how many of them have changed their minds?

No, I just lived in DC when Ashley Carter was elected.

Ya'll are becoming campaign material. And I'll bet at least some of the posts with nothing more than insults are Mandel.

Which kinda answers the question of why she's running. Why is she running? For attention from the right-wing grift-o-sphere.

Exactly. She’s trolling you all. She can’t complete against actual intellectuals. She doesn’t care if the world is all secretly laughing at her (Hi Beth - we are). She’s so gross. Another grifter. We can do way better than give this troll more air time. In a couple months she’s go back under her bridge and hopefully stay there.

The antisemitism in this thread is blatant. There are a lot of reasons to vote for someone else but Mandel’s religion isn’t one of them. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see this from the Stewart crowd.

You lack reading comprehension.

Do you think that poster is one of those people Bethany thinks likes her on here? Because believe me - DCUM gets catty - but antisemitism is 100% not tolerated here.

I think it's interesting that the Mandel supporters on DCUM keep targeting one of her two opponents.

I haven’t seen any kind of targeting. Only reference I see to Stewart up thread is from someone who responded to the critiques of Mandel scrubbing her tweets with the fact that Laura Stewart blocked her entire twitter history from public view when she decided to run for office. That’s a fair comparison and hardly targeting only one person like you said.

I didn't get a sense there were any supporters here but people standing up for common sense and a modicum of decency.

Quite the opposite. Thanks for introducing such a great candidates and new voice in to the Moco BOE. I did my research and found your accusations very baseless. On the other hand, I have not seen such a courageous and open-minded mom to run for BOE. God bless her. I think she will be very likely to qualify for Nov. since other candidates are splitting the votes (apple ballot backing non incumbents). It will be a very interesting primary.

She has registered as a Democrat which is a lie. She is also a homeschooler who has zero experience with MCPS or any school system. A book banner.

And she wants people to friend "neo nazi's". Bethany revels in her "Judaism" what Jew befriends neo nazis??????

She is incompetent and a fool. Please beware.

This is Bethany showing how utterly incompetent she is embarrassing herself on National TV.

She has removed many of her old tweets. They were horrific.
Brags about how many people she got fired.
Admists to killing her mother? WTH? No, she didn't but her tweet was horrific. Took her mom off life support because she could "because I had the choice to do so then" HER words! Before getting confirmation from a physician that grandma was going to recover. She tweeted this.
"Homeless is crazy and fun to hang out with but they smell"
Brags about how mean she is to customer service reps.
Brags about how she always gets things for free

Wake up MCPS this POS should be nowhere around our schools or children.

I'm honored to be quoted. To clarify, I don't think she should run or get any votes since she has no investment in the local public echool system. I was speaking only to the ridiculousness of the OP
