No idea who Bethany is and not clear about her political ideology. But it seems to me that just one person (the op) kept smearing and bullying her. Now I found out she is a conservative Democrat which makes me keen on voting for her. |
She is not a conservative democrat? She is a conservative Republican running as a democrat. |
This is true, and thoughtful. The thing I'd add as someone who also experienced childhood instability is that I actually understand the impulse to throw yourself into a community and lifestyle that you think offers you some "protection" in the form of faith-based or community guardrails. It's HARD to be a woman and a mother and a professional. Sometimes it feels like it would be easier if I could just move to Idaho and raise my kids with a bunch of sister wives, and only need to deal with my husband every 7 days when it is my turn. But that's a fantasy not real life. It would also be a lot worse in practice than in my mind. |
That was actually very helpful because I’m catholic actually lol. Thank you. |
She's become notorious after her "woke" interview flop went viral. If she makes it past the primary, every unhinged, hyperbolic wanna-be pundit with a podcast—on both the right and the left—is going to seize on MoCo and plaster her, and this race, everywhere.
OP's rant is going to look tame compared to what we'll see from the "far left," and the Moms4Liberty wing will undoubtedly be spewing stuff just as nasty, and exponentially more harmful to a lot of our kids and families. I don't want my kids' schools, or our county, to be caught in the middle of all this ugliness. I don't want kids and parents with genuine concerns to be seized on as a symbol, or splashed all over the internet as a rallying point. I don't want my kids' schools to be used as a wedge for someone else's issue. If we're not voting more thoughtfully than simply "anyone else," we're going to become a target for outside groups, just waiting for the opportunity to send in their clowns and create a circus. We can't let either political extreme use MCPS as a pawn in their national games. But Mandel is gleefully leading them all right to our door. I can't disagree that the status quo is unacceptable, and an overhaul is essential. But we need a new school board that doesn't come with that kind of tradeoff. I know some people love a chaos candidate, but please, not at the expense of our kids. |
Thank you for posting this. I have been commenting and watching this as well, but you worded exactly what I have feared an outcome will be if her running. We all want change. We all (parents, students, educators- true stakeholders in this) deserve an effective board that puts the needs of OUR children first. Please vote wisely. |
This poster is lying. The poster has posted 12 times, generally in support of Mandel. It is pretty clear that Mandel trolls are astroturfing this thread. |
Jeff, you missed your calling. Could've been an oppo research guy. |
Okay wow that’s what I suspected. I agree both sides seem to be sock puppeting, but from my perspective, the OP seems to be over the top while others supporting the candidate are just seeing it from another point of view but in a more sane manner. |
You mean the ONE supporter that posted 12 times? |
It is a question of styles. The OP is like, "Mandel will rip the books from your children's hands you idiots and force them to kiss Nazis, but only Nazis of the opposite sex. Are you a Nazi?" The Mandel trolls are more, "I just heard of Mandel five minutes ago (while posting for the 10th time in favor of Mandel) and she sounds great. Even though I am a progressive Democrat, I'm going to vote for her". |
No comment about OP, they are a loon, but re the pro-Mandel trolls - that is a very common conservative style I find. It reminds me of the guy at the beginning of the Trump administration who tweeted “I was in a coffee shop in Brooklyn and a bunch of progressive 20somethings were talking about how they are glad Trump won” or whatever. Megyn Kelly does this a lot too, she will say things like “I have very leftist friends who always supporter gay rights but now they are joining Moms for Liberty because they see how sick the Democratic Party is” or something to that effect. I hate the word “normalize” because it’s so overused by the left but I think it is an attempt at normalizing the current GOP. “See? Sane, rational left of center moderates are voting for Bethany, it’s fine!” But again OP is pretty weird too and obviously I don’t think Bethany is a Nazi. |
Jeff -- I think the whole thread started as a false-flag operation, hyperbolozing sentiment against the candidate just so the sock puppets could do this very thing. The aim is just to keep her name on the front page as much as to push "reasoned" support for the candidate to anyone who takes the click bait. If locking isn't appropriate, maybe you could retitle the thread, simply eliminating the candidate's name? |
