Tucker in Russia

“I think there’s no stopping Elon Musk. He will do as he sees fit,” Putin said.

“Nevertheless, you need to find some common ground with him, search for ways to persuade him,” Putin explained.

The Russian government and Putin has more room to persuade people. We would probably call it blackmail.

Tucker is no Peter Arnett.

Should there be a list of journalists favored by the government to do these interviews? I'm trying to understand the logistics of this double standard.

Tucker, in his own legal arguments, is not a journalist. In his own legal arguments, he is an entertainer.

This argument is lame and tired. Because his legal team used a strategy to win a law suit and said he was basically just being satirical instead of defaming someone he can never, ever, for the rest of human history interview someone in a journalistic capacity? You know what you’re saying is childish, lame, and petty. Stop.

Chris Hayes and Joy Reid aren’t journalists either by your logic, and no one would call for them to get sanctioned or targeted by our government for interviewing a foreign leader who isn’t in good standing with the US. You all come across as hollow, anti-Democratic fascists to be honest.

I’ve skimmed through the interview and the one thing that comes through is how sad this country is that the only people we have running for president are completely outmatched intellectually by Putin. I can’t even imagine how foolish Trump and Biden look next to Xi Jinping in closed door meetings. The rest of the world must think we’re a joke.

Anything to make this okay for yourself, I guess. Chris Hayes and Joy Reid aren’t in Russia against the advice of the government. They haven’t claimed that they’re not journalists in a court of law. Of course they haven’t been sued for defamation in a court of law either.

And congratulations on your skimming yielding one of the goals of Tucker’s propaganda, and super cute “both sides.” You’re a Republican and you’ll vote for Trump. You fancy yourself a deep thinker, independent of outside influences, but really your mind is already made up about everything. There’s no changing your thinking.

So journalists should only interview people who the government gives them clearance to interview? OMG you sound like a complete totalitarian monster. We still live in a democracy with freedom of the press. You do know that, don’t you?!

A lot of people’s true fascist colors are shining through in this thread.

But Tucker is no longer the press. He labeled himself an “entertainer.” Entertainers should not be going to dangerous places to interview autocrats.

What is your feeling about when Sasha Barron Cohen, acting as Ali G, interviewed Hamas? I thought it was hilarious and don't want to shut down this kind of entertainment.

Was Sasha Barron Cohen there as an adjunct to the GOP (and as a possible VP candidate for the same)? Was he there to make propaganda?

Ok. So you're assuming that Tucker is acting at the behest of Russia. In other words, you're assuming facts not in evidence.

Wouldn't it make more sense to make a specific case that Tucker is acting as an unregistered foreign agent, vs a broad decree that right wing media or entertainers should be legally barred from interviewing American adversaries? I can see that if Tucker is actually a foreign agent, we would have a legal interest in thwarting his activities. But why ban all entertainers?

Why would Putin want to humiliate his own Russian stooge? My MSNBC brainworm addled cerebral cortex can’t process this.

The reason could be similar to why R/conservatives humiliate themselves for Trump.

Probably a number of reasons why but I'll suggest that Putin knows he has the power in that exchange and Tucker will eat sh!t for the chance to stay relevant.

If you are unable to think clearly, I'd suggest seeing a doctor.

Tucker routinely has more views than any one of the cable news networks. He has videos on X with 100M+ views and unlike cable news anchors he doesn’t get paid a salary and makes waaay more money off of his own content than they could ever dream of making. LOL at him needing to interview Putin to stay relevant. He has more views than any other cable news host and it’s not even close.

Number of views on Xitter should be taken with a grain of salt. Tucker was already rich so it's unlikely that money is the prime driver. Tucker doesn't really respect his viewers since he'll openly lie to them on his "news" show; he is an entertainer after all! Getting kicked out of Fox was humiliating and exposed his dishonesty. I'd say Tucker wants to prove his worth to the "coastal elite" circles he wails about.

You think that Tucker’s show is an attempt to appease coastal elites? That's a fascinating take.

Tucker doesn’t need the approval of coastal elites. He is a coastal elite! That’s why these blue bloods types who fly Ukraine flags, post Hate Has No Home Here signs, or do whatever other type of sloganeering to fit in, hate him so much. He calls out their BS, which he’s been surrounded by since birth. They view him as a class traitor and he wears that badge with honor. It’s why his favorite president was Teddy Roosevelt, another child of privilege who pissed off people in power and called his own tribe out for their corruption.

Says who? By your logic Bill Maher should be banned from interviewing any leader who wasn’t democratically elected? Am I getting that right?

The fascism in this thread is insane.

“Fascism” ha!

You’re so oppressed.

I’m sorry an aging, frat bro, hack entertainer who was kicked off his show, and who has a history of a hard on for Russia got cucked on TV. He’s a piece of sht traitor. He clearly wants the US to stop helping Ukraine. If we do that we are abandoning our European allies and look like sht on the world stage. I’m sorry you probably have a hard on for Russia. You probably love its hate of gays, “traditional values” and authortarian style and wish America could have something similar. Nope!

I dunno - just an off-the-cuff guess. He could've sailed into the sunset with all of his money but is actively choosing to humiliate himself.

He became a joke when he used to wear that stupid bow-tie on Crossfire and got humiliated by Jon Stewart. Wait a minute...
Humiliated by Stewart. Humiliated by Fox. Humiliated by Putin. I'm sensing a pattern here.

Yeah, he’s such a maverick lol. Sorry you’re gullible. He’s not some coastal elite rebel. He’s an opportunist. If you’ll recall he slowly metastasized over time. He went from somewhat conservative to full blown MAGA. It boosted his ratings tremendously. Now he’s just full blown traitor. Sorry you rubes can’t see it.

Well, at least Putin let everyone know he has kompromat on Tucker, so there is that.

Basically.

That or he honestly thinks he’s smart.

Hey why’d Russia turn down other journalists who inquired multiples times, like BBC, and only grant this interview to Tucker? Weird. It’s almost like they wanted him to be the one to do the interview. Why?

All part of the vast right-wing conspiracy, Hillary.

I guess they thought he would be sympathetic to him.

Or at least he thought he'd get a neutral to favorable edit. It seemed neutral to me.
