When people say things such as:

I have no idea who is trolling and who is not. Jeff can opine. But, I think the missing conversation is that Israel was founded on land where Palestinians lived for generations. Yes, there are historically Jewish ties to that land. And yes, the holocaust was beyond words horrible. But think of the situation if you were a Palestinian farming family who was told to leave their home for a “temporary period” (so they left willingly believing this) and never allowed to return. Imagine someone explaining to you that this is “just” because the German people gassed people of Jewish faith. Yes, you’d be confused. You’d likely be angry. Would you join Hamas? Admit it. Maybe. So as long as we don’t acknowledge that the Palestinian people have suffered great harm “nuanced” messages like President Obama’s do nothing. Honestly, this entire situation is tragic. Where is Germany???

[Question] So you are saying you are sufficiently desensitized to violence such that the horrific acts committed by Hamas on 10/7 do not disturb you? What a horrible and sad human you must be.
[Answer] No, it does not disturb me. 50 years of war between Israel and it's neighbors, 13,000 murdered Palestinians and this what shocks your sensibilities?

Yes, I would be concerned. These are real posts from this website. Let's assume these people are posting from the U.S.

This is a long post that tries to make a different point, but ultimately concludes that no, no Jewish student has been physically harmed in the US this month.

Would you be upset if Jewish students were hurt? I assume not. Let me know if I am wrong.

Why should a university comment on international events? They are not players in the dispute nor heads of state.

Send your kid to a different country for college if you are so freaked out by different opinions.
No one has an answer for you and you know it. Why drag politics into the college forum

I would be quite upset, since I am Jewish, and my two Jewish children are at college! But I am not worried, and neither are they, since no Jewish students have been physically harmed at a US college this month.

Racism and antisemitism are not “opinions”

They are indeed. Terrible opinions, but opinions nonetheless.

You don't need to be Jewish to be upset.

With all the pro hamas rallies at college campuses across the country I am worried about all our students.

These people are celebrating what Hamas has done to innocent civilians. It’s disgusting and a cancer. You are smart to fear this wave.

A pro Palestinian rally is not a pro terrorism rally. My Palestinian child is at Columbia and has attended some of the rallies. I raised him to be proud of his heritage and respectful of other opinions. I resent people equating him with a terrorist and worry about his safety too.

51% of hate crimes in this country are against Jews. It’s an alarming increase recently and this was all before 10/7.

You support the terrorists. That makes you one and the same. I resent you.

Yes, I was on campus at George Mason during 911 and there was at that time a disturbing amount of American and Jew hatred spewed. The bodies of the dead were still warm and they were out in force voicing their hatred. AOC would have been proud.

Palestinians are victims. May God protect you, your child, and all Jewish students as well. We all need to get along. We are all Americans.

Why should a university comment on international events? They are not players in the dispute nor heads of state.

That's what I think as a general matter. But they commented on Roe v Wade and George Floyd so now they've opened the gates.

Williams issued a statement (not sure how recently) that the university will no longer comment on national or world events unless the school is directly impacted.

+1

Thank you Williams College for refusing to be bullied.

Oh please. They didn’t do it because they “refused to be bullied.” They did it to pre-emptively remove themselves from criticism.

This type of response is one reason that Palestinians have generated worldwide support.

I think it's because more people than you think are anti-Semitic.

Tough issue. We all need to talk & be willing to compromise. (Why would anyone be anti-any religion ? Doesn't make sense. Religion is about faith & helping others.)

Again, since 10/7, no Jewish student harmed on campus. OP, there is mo objective reason you should be concerned.
