Who is your fictional husband?

Dylan McKay

Luke Perry - yes. Dylan "mad bad and dangerous to know" McKay - no. Too moody. And your mother-in-law would be Iris, no thanks.
Steve Sanders is the only husband material from that show.

What?! Steve had Celeste who was LOVELY and he cheated on her! I like Dylan's moodiness. I'm fine with him going off to Baja to surf for two days to leave me to putter around by myself, or sitting in a cafe reading all day. And Iris is off in Hawaii for the most part. I could deal with her a few times a year. I am sticking with Dylan.

Ok, but he’s a heroin addict in later seasons.

But I will cure Dylan of his addiction with my LOVE! (Steve never did anything for me, physically. I didn't like his tight curly hair, didn't like his facial structure, didn't like his body, and he was just too stupid.)

why? He'd be gone all the time and the hair all over the house from his annoying pet?

Wookies live a long time so technically Han is the pet.

My fictional husband changes a lot. I'm very fickle.

Well hurry up! When you move on I’m snatching up Jack Smith. As a real life scientist I greatly enjoy this alternate reality where every one is hot and fun.

If he reforms your fickle ways I’ll go with Jacob from Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez. Although he and Briana were so perfect together it seems wrong to type that. Tough choices….

I haven’t thought about this in a long time, but when I was younger it was Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gilbert Blythe and Almanzo Wilder (from the books. Laura has to live with a family for one of her first teaching jobs. The family is struggling and the situation is stressful. Almanzo starts picking her up and driving her back each weekend even though it takes hours). I will also take John Thornton from North and South (as played by Richard Armitage - haven’t read the book).

I see we have the same taste in men. I think Gilbert and “Manly” were my first crushes as a girl, then Darcy for sure.

If i knew you IRL we could binge Designing Women together...

Yep, quality men. Reese, JD, Bill and sweet Anthony. What they all had in common was that they were all gentlemen in the truest sense.

Probably helped that several of the actors were the real-life romantic partners of the actresses!

Good choices. I might even choose John-Boy.

You and I must be the only middle aged women posting this morning - otherwise I cannot believe that nobody is acknowledging what terrific husbands/fathers they were.

And yes John Boy definitely matured into somebody who would have my attention as well.

I would have seconded Atticus Finch on his fatherly love alone, but the question was about husbands and we don’t really know if he was a good one, we just assume.

Of course this question made me laugh a little because, having recently rewatched all of The Waltons and LHOTP with an elderly woman I was caregiver for, I realized it was the standards I had in mind from observing those two husbands/fathers in my childhood that kept me perpetually single.

And ironically reading Pioneer Girl in recent years I learned that it is well documented that Charles Ingalls was a terrible husband and father, not anything like the man his daughter depicted decades later in her children’s books.

Who knows about Earl Hamner Sr., his son closely protected the family legacy underpinning his lucrative Waltons franchise and it doesn’t seem any historians have done a deep dive into the family history to see what if any skeletons reside there. But I can only assume he was far less perfect in real life than he is portrayed in the books and series.

+1 The only one for me for decades.

My dream date is Colin Firth sends me a beautiful dress and jewels before our date. Then he picks me up, dressed as Mr. Darcy. He compliments my shoes (nothing dirty happening here). We engage in witty conversation over a delicious, decadent 8 course meal. Then he takes me home, requests permission to kiss my hand. I hesitate as it's so soon. Then two more dates of the same. On the third date, I permit him to finally kiss my hand. He asks me to marry him, then I go live in his sprawling estate as Mrs. Darcy. The nanny brings my kids to see me for an hour at tea time in between all their private lessons, Downton Abbey style.

Respect, my friend! Now this is the kind of post I hoped to read! (King Richard-from-"Galavant" PP here. We'll invite you and Darcy to come to our castle sometime. Darcy will find Richard ridiculous but Richard will love Darcy and will happily, obliviously be showing off his dragon. That is not a euphemism for anything else, by the way.)

We're pleased to accept! We'll be bringing a lot of servants, but hopefully your servants can show them the ropes.

Cillian Murphy in most of his roles. Dreamy eyes.
Noah from the notebook
Chandler Bing from friends
James marsden in 27 dresses. Or the notebook. He was rich and kind in the notebook, so let’s go with that.

It will be awkward if Colin and I bump into you two, but ok.
