MCPS has a lot of faults, but this is not one of them. I’m sorry you had a teacher you felt shamed you for your child”s dyslexia but I have been a large number of schools and have never seen this. In fact, many, if not most, elementary teachers have been trained in OG, Wilson and or Letters. Hoe did they shame you or your child?


I don't think it's true that there's a lot of shaming for disabilities but also it's not true that there are a lot of teachers trained to deal with dyslexia in MCPS. There are hardly any who have really gone through a full OG certification training program - even the reading specialists just do a few hours of training and not a certification even though they are dealing with the dyslexic students in pull outs. MCPS should switch to a curriculum like Wilson that works for all kids and invest in more training. They could also use some special programs for dealing with kids who are severely dyslexic
