I agree that the thread title is a inflammatory, but I'm white and I didn't feel insulted by it. The reality is--and psychologists say--that all human beings stereotype. It's a survival strategy that is hardwired into our brains. We make split-second assessments about whether a stranger is a friend or foe depending on external characteristics like race, gender, and age. Even the way we dress reinforces stereotypes. So while I agree that, in a perfect world ,it would be nice if we all avoided stereotyping, that is not the world we live in. Sorry but I don't have any pity for "less privileged" white men. I know lots of them and most don't have a giant chip on their shoulders about women, minorities, immigrants and others they can't relate to doing well--or worst, better--than them.
