Hey, look! Another wimpy, scared old white man shoots and kills someone for no reason!

You don’t know? It’s not hate speech if you are Caucasian. Then it’s AOK.

And it is impossible for black people to engage in any racially motivated action too.

All races/ethnicities are capable of committing hate crimes. But, statistically, there are more hate crimes committed against Blacks in this country than against any other group. That's fact. Sorry if that reality is annoying to you and the RW media you consume.

"Bias against African Americans overwhelmingly comprised the largest category of race-based hate crime incidents, with a total of 56% of race-based hate crimes being motivated by anti-Black bias."

DP here. What do you think you are arguing about? White people don’t like to be stereotyped any more than any other race. Why not agree to stop stereotyping all people?

What are YOU arguing about? Do you feel stereotyped?

The pp was commenting that the thread title was an attempt to stereotype white people and then the response was about bias against AA. It seems like you are trying to minimize the attempt by OP to create a stereotype of white men by showing how black people are victims of bias. I don’t see how that is a valid defense. If it’s wrong to stereotype black people then it is also wrong to stereotype white men.

I agree that the thread title is a inflammatory, but I'm white and I didn't feel insulted by it. The reality is--and psychologists say--that all human beings stereotype. It's a survival strategy that is hardwired into our brains. We make split-second assessments about whether a stranger is a friend or foe depending on external characteristics like race, gender, and age. Even the way we dress reinforces stereotypes. So while I agree that, in a perfect world ,it would be nice if we all avoided stereotyping, that is not the world we live in. If you accept that hate crimes are an example or consequence of stereotyping, then you should accept the statistics show that some groups are more likely to be the victims of hate crimes than others.

This. But it is more in fashion to pretend that only white men are shooting people while ignoring the fact that black men are shooting each other every day for no reason.

Men & guns are the common denominator.

So is being an American.

American men with guns are scared, armed, and killing innocent people.

Maybe you don’t feel insulted because you are financially and culturally secure as an educated white professional. White men who are less privileged may not feel as secure as you do. We should stop using cheap racial stereotypes if we ever want to live in harmony.

This wasn't a "hate crime." it was an old Fox-watching, MAGA idiot hyped up on non-specific anger via Fox, Trump, right wing radio. Plus a healthy dose of cowardice. It takes balls and a bit of faith (a word Republicans love to throw around) to see who is approaching you before you f***ing fire on them.

Whooooppps!... Turns out it was a 20 year old girl and some of her college friends who got lost! Oh well!

What a MAGA chickenshit this guy was/is.

Sorry but I don't have any pity for "less privileged" white men. I know lots of them and most don't have a giant chip on their shoulders about women, minorities, immigrants and others they can't relate to doing well--or worst, better--than them. The ones that do tend to be Republicans because that party keeps telling them that white men are victims.

Yeah, because everything the GOP says and does promotes "living in harmony." Eye roll

It seemed like the beginning of some momentum, but then the momentum was lost.

It seemed like there was the beginning of some momentum... but then it was lost?

I hate when that happens! It's usually about the time the cable coverage slows down.

Beto lost - that's what happened. He was never going to win - but he did pretty well.

Are you a nihilist?

A lot of people have been on edge these last few years, in part because a lot of other people have become far more inconsiderate and entitled. I see we’ve got yet another Fox News loyalist here. So prone to dramatic hysterics. So fragile.

Yes, isn't that what Fox called the migrants heading this way, a "convoy"?

Yup. These ridiculous MAGA idiots are desperate to cosplay “hero” and live out their vengeance fantasies. Absurd

And the scarediest of scaredy cats are MAGA men who watch Fox News and listen to right wing radio and podcasts. Someone's trying to get them(!) or is getting something that they are not(!)

Just been seeing assault rifle-delivered mass shootings for a long time (and so many thoughts and prayers!) Next Spring will be Columbine's 25th anniversary. That's Silver, right?

The convoy that magically evaporated into thin air the day after the election.
