Non American here - I do not understand the family photo Christmas cards

OP, I wish I knew you. I’d create ten versions of a photo card and send them all to you just to watch you get your knickers in a knot.

I think when you send a card to celebrate a holiday it should be about the person you're sending it to, the gesture of goodwill for a new year etc, not all about yourself. I think that's why people who don't like these cards really don't like them, the sentiment is in reverse. That's just my 10 cents.

You can choose to view it in the most negative light possible. FWIW, I don’t sent photo cards, but enjoy receiving them. I choose to view at as people taking a few moments to think of me. It’s exhausting to go through life casting the worst light on people’s motives.

We have a Belgian friend who is a Baron who has always sent a photo card.

Like the PP, I love going how to my parents house and going through the basket of cards and letters and seeing people I knew from growing up and what they are doing.

Just send a plain index card back with the message “unsubscribe.” That should do it.

I only ever send these to close families like grandparents , aunts and uncles whom I know would love to display them

I sent my friends the undercover photos I snapped of THEM all year and they didn’t like it very much.

Lemme guess, you are from the Midwest. Amirite?

Americans just tend to overshare and are more informal than europeans. There is also a certain amount of laziness to these cards. They give the impression of being very personal but are actually just form letters with pictures. I am american and don’t send cards at all. In terms of receiving and “displaying” cards though, I’d much rather look at pics of a family I know than generic pics of santa.

I haven’t seen many of those people in years so the photos show babies I have yet to meet, teenagers with their braces, new pets and new spouses. I love all of it.

What kind of special display?

I can’t find my exact one but it’s similar to this (a big card holder in the shape of a Christmas tree):

Lol. Of course you do.

I’m from the US and I prefer non-photo cards.

Got a Christmas card from Germany last week - had family pictures on one of the panels. This is not unusual in some parts of Europe.

Why are you complaining about Christmas cards o. January 2st you weirdo!
I feel like you're card troll.
Your first attempt was your thread about throwing away your cards because you didn't receive enough

I love this idea. I’ve been taping them to a wall, and when the holidays end, I put them on a binder ring. I personally love getting photo cards and I love the updates people include with them. We don’t send one out every year.
