Yes, a lot of people are excited about this movie. It's a weird concept with fantastic marketing, and indie movie royalty writing and directing. If it gets bad reviews, then sure no one will see it - it'll be another Babylon. If it gets good reviews, it'll be huge - and might even get Oscars.

oscars?? We'll see....

I'm telling you! I don't promise it's going to happen - but if it's actually good, it could.

This looks like a good one for the High School Musical crowd.

It’s going to flop - mark my words.

+1

My four year old sure loved the trailer. I thought it seemed like it’s made for kids.

PG 13 so its not for young kids. My teen and I are excited to see it. It's going to be so corny, but it will take us all back to our barbie days! My sister and I died laughing over memories of our "barbie play" after watching the trailer.

+1. Saw the trailer this weekend, yikes.

So are you just not a fan of comedy in general?

We'll see. I suppose my kids (girls, 16 and 12) and I (51 YO mom) are the target demographic, but we are ready to see this on the big screen.

I agree it's going to be terrible. The concept sounds so dumb. "can we die?"

My husband and I - both 50 - are excited to see it, too.

I’m sorry but that’s lame.

Are you not familiar with Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach? I'm going to assume so. If you were, you'd understand.

I'm looking forward to it too, 38 year old woman.

You know it just looks fun and light! It looks very funny too, and post pandemic I just don't have as much of an appetite for serious prestige stuff. I want to see the barbie in the world, some happiness and fun and upbeat vibes. I'm sure it will also have some "Things to Say" about feminism and women in society but it also just looks funny.

If I'm choosing between Barbie and Oppenheimer? God no contest.

I have never heard of Greta Gerwig or Noah Baumbach.

My friend and I are planning on seeing it in theater. Neither of us has been interested in anything enough to have seen anything in the theater since pre covid.

Ah, ok - so then your reaction makes sense. Look them up - they're two great filmmakers. I'll go see basically anything that either of them makes, because I've enjoyed their previous work so much.

Really? Greta has directed 2 Academy Award Nominees for Best Picture in the last 6 years. She herself has been nominated for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay & Best Adapted Screenplay. She’s also been nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes for an entirely separate picture. If you’re remotely a movie watcher (and if not, why are you commenting in this thread?), it’s really on you if you’ve never heard of her.
