Is it okay to buy/wear Balenciaga given the controversy related to children? They have apologized.

But as PP’s have said, things are changing. Google “nytimes France incest” for many recent stories. My hope is that this gets the entire fashion house shut down. It should be a #metoo moment on behalf of children.

Can any French posters share how this is playing out among French parents and in the media there? Are there apologists for what happened?

Despite all the online commotion, the father of the child is defending Balenciaga’s shoot saying his daughter had a “fantastic time” posing for the photographs. Speaking exclusively with the Daily Mail, the father, who remains anonymous said he was present at the shoot, which was “an enjoyable day out.” He insisted the pictures of his daughter had been taken “totally out of context.” He went on to say,

“No parent would actively encourage the child to take part in something which was pornographic, and I think the publicity surrounding what happened has been blown out of all proportion,” he told the outlet.

This business, big and esteemed as it is, needs to be shuttered. You don’t come back from this when the world has a hard enough time protecting kids from exploitation. Anyone else feel like this is somehow happening in parallel to Trump and Kanye’s antisemitism revival?

Stage parents are the WORST. Brad Pitt once said they are the worst of the worst...

For me? No. Their lawsuit also is ridiculous and attempting to pass the buck — it makes me think even worse of them, not better. There was no way this was not approved and vetted internally.

I’m done.

Me too. I'm done buying Balenciaga! LOL.

Never again I tell you! I predict I'll be seeing very little of it day-to-day going forward, too.

Do you think the damage is that severe??

Quit the histrionics. There is no damage. Also, there's been almost no discussion of the brand on around here over the years, so this would not be a place to judge that there was.

Terrible, terrible people thrive in the fashion industry thanks to celebrity endorsements. This should end Balenciaga but I doubt it will.

The damage is absolutely that severe. These are optional, aspirational goods and there’s plenty of competition. If the campaign was a fluke, maybe they could recover. But the level of detail, the shifting French context and the number of people who were okay with treating child porn like an edgy trend dooms them imo.

This parent doesn't sound like a stage parent at all. Your typical stage parents are Lindsey Lohan's and Britney Spears' parents, and look how they turned out.

This parent is defending his decision to allow his infant to "model" for Balenciaga. Sounds like a stage parent to me.

Why didn't the child model's parent heavily scrutinize the set?? Where was the mandatory social worker??
