Counterfeit by Kristen Chen. The style for the first half drove me a little crazy, but the second half made it worthwhile.

I just finished cloud cuckoo land and loved it.

Just curious, how did you decide to pick this up? I read it because I'm pretty into the show and wanted some of the tea.

I didn’t like this book. I disliked it so much I considered quitting after I stared but read to the end thinking it must get better since everyone seems to love it. Nope, it didn’t get any better.

Also HATED it. And I usually like that author!

I love the types of books on this thread. One that I'll throw out to you all is "The Heart's Invisible Furies." It's modern Irish history through the eyes of a quirky kid growing up gay.

I LOVED The Heart’s Invisible Furies, so much so I ordered my own copy after reading it from the library!

Another suggestion - My Ex-Life.

Thank you for the Heart's Invisible Furies rec. Just started and loving it!

I picked this up based on this thread. Liked but didn't love - too long and the emotional payoff came too late to be really satisfying for me. I'd be interested to hear what you think..

My spouse is Irish, so I'm hugely entertained by the language and culture--rings so true. Ireland has changed SO much in the past couple of decades, but the first part, showing the rule of the Catholic Church, mirrors the stories I've always heard.

While I'm here, I'll also recommend The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. It's a family story told across two generations, in Cyprus and in London. It's excellent.

This has been my favorite read of this year by far. It's just beautiful and one of those books that sits with you for a while long after you're done with it.

This is the last fantastic book I’ve read.

The ones I’ve read since haven’t been as good but I keep trying!

I just finished this book today. I agree with you…both charming and different. Oh, Marcellus! This would make a good movie.

I think The Huntress is her best. Have read all of her work. It stays with you.

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub

I haven't loved all of her previous books so I was surprised by how much I liked this.

A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins.

She also authored The Girl On The Train which was made into a motion picture.

This book kept me on my toes.
Read it in 2 1/2 days.
Did not want to eat, sleep, shower or even go to work.
Lol.

The ending still shocks me.
Brilliant ending.
