I thought this went off the rails four pages ago but now it’s like off whatever the rails are on.
Also, it’s getting too mean. Don’t call someone an old chicken please.

Anonymous wrote:OP- I would recommend you think twice about going to El Salvador. I have no opinions on the beaches or tourism, but it is a very unstable and dangerous country right now. The Peace Corps even suspended it's program there due to security issues. It is part of the Northern Triangle and a hub for narcotrafficking. MS-13, what is known there as La Mara, is a very powerful organized crime ring with heavy arms imported from the United States. It is true that most Salvadoran's are good people, hardworking, the food is great (I love pupusas!), and the country does have a lot to offer. It's simply not a good time to travel there.
Really? Have you been there? Or is this all second hand info? What a gross exaggeration.
I work with asylum seekers from El Salvador. Since you're too lazy to google, here are some links.
Right. So your answer is no, you’ve never been there. Honestly, I don’t want to wade politics, but a very large number of Central American asylum seekers (Salvadorans included) are actually economic migrants who exaggerate their personal stories and the conditions in their home countries in order to satisfy the rigorous criteria for immigration benefits in the United States. So please keep that in mind when formulating your opinions regarding matters of which you are otherwise clueless.
NP who also works with asylum seekers. It's the murder capital of the world. Give me a break.
Almost all of my students are from El Salvador. Almost all of them have a direct family member who has been murdered.

That being said, OP….I don’t really understand why you would consider this as a trip with you 70 year old mom for hikes and beaches. It definitely seems like adventure tourism to me.
+1
OP, El Salvador is great, but you’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Panama, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Brazil(small towns) are better options.
Anonymous wrote:we lived there for 3 years. i loved it. not really a typical spot to vacation nor a lot of infrastructure for it. can be v dangerous in some spots and you wouldn't know until too late if you aren't familiar with the country.
Interested to hear what you loved about living there?

This forum has some great advice but there are also a few subgroups that are just not operating on the same plane as the rest of us—just mention Iceland and it’s triggering for a bunch of them! Then there are the posters if it’s not a Rosewood or similar, why even bother?
I liked the post too, and I'm the one who's ridden the chicken buses all over Central America ha ha.
NP. You are every bit as deranged and pathetic as the Marriott Gold poster. I don’t think you understood the travel olympics post at all. In fact you bragged about how no one could outdo you in Spanish or international travel or living, particularly in Latin America. You come across as arrogant, out of touch and just generally smug. And chicken bus is offensive. Please be open to learning/evolving and remember there are plenty of terms once common that are no longer considered appropriate.
New Poster? Ha! That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Do better, MG!
PP here, and that wasn’t me. Surprised another poster finds you bigoted and obnoxious? I’m not.
Anyway, enjoy your snow day and hi from the Mediterranean. But I’ll warn ya, yesterday while I was walking in town, I did see some trash spilling from a dumpster, some stray cats wandering around, and a beach with an unacceptably high pebble to sand ratio. So I guess based on your criteria for acceptable destinations, OP and her mother should also avoid Malta. Am I right mi querida reina de los pollos?
No, I actually like Malta very much. We had a great time there. We even did something totally cheesy -- the "Game of Thrones" tour. A local student drove us from shooting location to shooting location all over the island and showed us video clips of scenes from the show while we stood in the same exact spot as the actors. Not something that we'd typically do, but we did love the show and had plenty of time on our hands -- that was a six week trip, I think -- so it ended up being a real hoot. I'd recommend it!
As I said, you're not going to "out travel" me. Next?
PP here. Oh boy! “Out travel” you? What on earth are you talking about?
Why in the world would I be surprised that you (or any other American for that matter) had been to a pedestrian and mainstream destination like Malta? I merely mentioned I was here. Not sure why this is a competition for you, but again, it’s pretty clear you’re the Travel Olympiad the other poster mentioned.
And of course you did the GOT tour when you were here! Of course you did. Because that’s the most suburban American excursion on offer. I bet you did the tour in Croatia too, didn’t you?
Plus, six weeks in Europe is hardly brag worthy. Just saying.
If I’m being honest, I kinda hope you don’t stop with this. You have given our family some truly “hearty laughs” at the end of the day!!
Ha ha so you've gone from dropping Malta to try and sound cool to writing it off as pedestrian when you found out I was there. Got it!
At least I didn't have to go in January when the prices are lower because the weather sucks. Some of us can afford better. LOL.
Oh darling. I never thought or said that Malta was impressive. That was you, followed by “you’re not going to ‘out travel’ me” (which tbh my 10 year already has done I’m sure!). We live in Europe now, and it’s a quick, easy and cheap Ryanair flight for us. We choose a different destination each month, it’s not big deal. And sorry to break it you if you don’t know, but summer Euro travel is the pits, especially in places like Spain, Portugal, Malta, and Greece. SO crowded. If that’s when you did your Game of Thrones your, I truly feel sorry for you. We usually retreat to Scandinavia during that time, and no I don’t mean Copenhagen. Try harder mi querida gallina vieja!! Anything else you’d like to share hermana?
Your European glamour life clearly ain't what you're painting it out to be considering you have the time and inclination to return to DCUM time and again when you don't even live here to (badly) troll a stranger. I guess you miss living here.

Hola gallina, who ever said it was a glam life? Not me. Life is life, whether you’re in Bethesda, El Salvador, or Malta, but we’re lucky to have experienced such diversity. And are you kidding me? DCUM is the best entertainment around, on any continent! Our family has laughed so hard over chicken lady and her insane desire to convert every poster into her friend, even while spewing offensive and outdated terminology. And of course we have downtime in the morning and the evening, just like you. Living in Europe doesn’t change that!
To answer your question though, I can’t say I really miss living in the DMV, although there are people and places I definitely recall fondly. And we have our house there, so we can come back when we want. But overall, the history, culture, languages and experiences of Europe were something we couldn’t pass up when it came to our child. I would have thought you might be similarly motivated, but your travel interests seem to primarily revolve around beaches and TV shows, which is fine of course as long as you cut out the arrogance. Un abrazo enorme and all the best to you!

Fair enough. But my prediction is that El Salvador is about to explode as a tourist destination. The government is going to line up chicken buses at the airport to transport visitors along trash strewn routes to mediocre beaches. And la Reina de Pollo will be narrating the journey. ¡Que disfruten!
Hey, I have a question for both the Marriott Gold and chicken bus posters: how are you both able to travel so much? Are you travel bloggers or something? Can’t imagine taking so many trips

I can’t speak for chicken lady, but as I mentioned, our family now lives in Europe.

A poster spotted chicken lady claiming to “out Spanish” someone over a week ago in the separate travel thread asking where one should move abroad for a year. So obviously that’s her MO. Pretty funny stuff.

Can we please not encourage either of these folks to continue derailing this thread with their nonsense? Neither poster seems to be well.
