BS. For many decades it has been the practice of American public schools to celebrate Halloween in some fashion. When Halloween falls on a weekend they do it on a Friday. You know that, and everyone else does too.

Nope. Many schools discontinued this practice years ago.

Once again, your school did not "cancel Halloween." Cope.

Many conservative fundamentalists went after Halloween in schools in the 1980s and 1990s. I can't believe schools here were still have Halloween celebrations at schools at all..

Abandoning American culture. Oh, the melodrama of it all.

Why is my kid learning about community helpers for the third year in a row instead of, I don't know, ancient Egypt? Why did we just add another special "wellness"? Can anyone explain what they are learning that can't be taught at home? Why is it fine for the teacher to read a book with the phrase "Allahu Akbar" (Rameenas Ramadan) but no books about Halloween, God forbid Christmas. One afternoon party is going to take away from reading and math?

How upsetting that your child has to learn about community helpers for multiple years, instead of mastering the topic in kindergarten and then moving on to Plato's Republic.

LOL. Well in my experience little kids love learning history. Including my own and no, he is not gifted. I don't know any little kids who love the lame social studies curriculum in ES.

My child could participate in the holiday and I wouldn’t be subjected to the tortuous stress. Now I have to decide whether it is worth my emotional health to venture out with DD. I wish the schools would consider that before deciding to cancel something that was so helpful. I wish those of you so callously dismissing the decisions as NBD would think of someone other than yourself.

"Torturous stress?" "Worth my emotional health?" Lady, get some actual problems.

You sound like the idiots keeping that making kids wear masks in a pandemic is "child abuse."

Huh. Our MCPS elementary is doing Halloween as usual - parade and class parties.

No one cares if you are dressed up. Bring a pillow case and the kids will get free chocolate from me. Stop virtue signaling. You care, not the kids. I swear, you all ruin everything.

Sounds like you have bigger problems than your kid’s school not having a Halloween party.

Did these conservative fundamentalists also go after the teaching of evolution? They don't sound like a good fit for public schools.
