SMU

What type of student attends SMU? We’re not from the South and have never interacted with an SMU grad. DS is looking for a school with an excellent work-life balance with good weather. They have good stats so far and plan to retake the June SAT.

I know two, one graduated 5 years ago, the other currently attends. The older is conservative and an avid member of her church and the younger is a complete party girl. It's most likely like all schools, there are all kinds of people. For the record, despite how some of the more ridiculous posters try to portray the "South", the "South" is not some alien land filled with inbred, toothless, bigots... especially Dallas.

Skews wealthier, preppier, more conservative and less diverse than other big Texas schools. Nice campus with greek life seeming to dominate the social scene. Seems the student body is southern friendly but cliquey. On average students are admitted with somewhat lower stats than other major Texas schools. That said graduates will probably will make more money because that don’t major in 1500s mud hut design in the Incan empire but on more business oriented area. Just one biased anecdotal data point…

This. Look up KKG and “The Society.” Greek life is very popular, not as intense as Bama but if your DS isn’t interested joining Greek life I would rank them a bit lower on the list.

SMU's incoming freshman stats are damn high! 1340-1470 SAT and 30-34 ACT. Not a school for dumdums!

I'd pick Northeastern or Georgetown.

It's in a nice part of Dallas.

Kids I know who went there very religious, affluent, white and academically good students.

Their experience was kids were not friendly.

I was just there walked the Campus because we were in town for a wedding groom was an SMU graduate. It was nice.

Dallas love field isn't far SW hub. Kids can uber to campus from there.

Better to go to a top SEC flagship like Texas or UGA.

Obviously…that’s like saying Harvard is better than Penn State.
