Housekeeping Rates

How much is a reasonable fee to pay a weekly housekeeper?

How would it effect the per visit rate if she comes biweekly? Do you pay by the hour or a set amount? Thanks!

When I used one of the well-known services a couple of years ago for a "deep clean" I paid close to $500 for a team of 3 people. They got my house done in half a day. I tipped each $20 as well.

That isn't exactly what you are asking about, and you would be paying less, but I don't think you would be paying that much less. If possible, get an individual rather than a service. The services clean by a checklist, and don't stray from it. If you get an individual housekeeper you will have much more control over what she does, and will be able to ask her to focus on problem areas.

It does tend to cost less (per visit, anyway) if you hire weekly rather than biweekly.

If it’s house cleaning, we pay $250 for 6k sq feet every 2 weeks.

We keep it relatively clean but it takes about half a day.

This is just so ridiculous. Enjoy thorwing your money away. I have cleaners for 6000 every two weeks and it's $250. They are done in two hours.

Our cleaners (Takoma Park - this is very location dependent) are independent, come as a team of 3. They clean our 2700 sqft house every otehr week for 200$ a visit, they usually stay 2 hours.

They clean the inside of the fridge and make the beds if we leave new bedsheets for them to put on (but we don't abuse it). No laundry, no cleaning of the porch or any other extras.

We keep our house organized and clutter free and clean in between their visits so our house is not among the super hard to clean.

We pay $250 per week for a 5,500 sf house, 5 bedroom.

I would assume the daily rate would be adjusted if you have them come twice a week, maybe slightly less per visit or you can have them do more misc work.

We pay $135/week. House is around 2200 square feet. Takes 2-3 people around 2 hours.

It's not "ridiculous" and no one threw money away (why are you so reactionary about other people's money anyway?). If you read the PP you see that it was a "deep clean." That includes things they don't normally do -- such as baseboards, all windows including plantation shutters, ceiling fans, etc.

+1. A one time deep clean costs more because they have more to do. If it’s a scheduled service then they have a lower workload because they’re keeping it clean regularly and have less to do each time.
