| I’ve heard girls making fun of “preppy” girls, none by name, at pickup. It doesn’t seem to be targeting or involving my DC, who doesn’t sing the songs but has at least 1 friend who does. This friend is a pain and hyper social, in terms of crushes and gossip, and her mom is an old Goth. Is “preppy” a thing, or a kind of catch-all like “basic” or “girlie”? I don’t like the idea of making fun of girls (it’s not being directed to boys!) for not caring about style at young ages. Is this a current thing? |
| OP go away. |
What the hell is your problem? |
| If you think this is bad - wait until middle school |
It’s ok to care about the here and now, too. |
|
At my daughter's high school preppy is an insult.
As an "old goth" myself with a non-goth child, I don't think that has anything do with it. But vapid preppy girls annoy me too. |
Yes, but this is NBD and the OP is being dramatic. Typical preppy. |
| Go away Op |
Why is anyone assuming a kid who wears plain stuff is annoying or insipid? It’s just bizarre. |
You replied to OP. Are all you crows-feet having “goths” this lame? |
|
Poor choice of friends, clearly. Tell your kid to ignore the trash talk, pick nice kids as friends and stay away from bullies. The nasties peak in middle school. It gets better in high school. |
Yes, because goth was always the ultimate lame conformist style. Preppy is nebulous and hardly even a style category. Goth is all the same. |
| Could we all please just get along? Let others wear what they want and you can wear what you want. The concept is called free to choose. |
|
I've never heard either of my daughters refer to someone as "preppy". Where do you live and what do they think this means?
*Also WTF are you talking about with "an old Goth", let me guess, you were a cheerleader? |
| Who knew referring to people as "goth" would be so controversial!! OP, maybe get your question deleted and try again in a few weeks without insulting goth people. |
