Arlington Changing their "color" system to NWSL teams

Anonymous
Arlington is dropping color team names in favor of NWSL names, according to the U9 coaching slate. Do we think this will transition across all age groups?

Arlington is so late to this game.

I find this confusing and unsure what it means as an opponent. Some other clubs already do this. I have to wonder if it is partially being done just to confuse the new parents and kids so they do not realize what team level they are on; therefore they might take longer to realize they are on the 4th or 3rd team perhaps? But if helps the kids, then that is a good thing.

Sounds like Arlington is signaling that they're open to NWSL. Or more specifically "NWSL Next" when it happens. Smart move...

1) Arlington isn't going to give up ECNL.

2) it doesn't make a difference, the teams are still in tiers based on level, no matter what you call them

When my 18-year old started, there weren't colors. They were named after FIFA teams.

Not at all, but I agree that would be cool

NO. It is pretty common for clubs to name their youngest teams after popular players or pro clubs. This is little more than an extension of calling your rec team the Cheetahs.

It is just a fun thing for the kids as well as keeping kids/parents from being overly focused on teams as a form of status at 8/9 years old.

This might be the dumbest take of this short year.

I don't think so.

That just means that you wrote it.

NWSL Academy Committee: I see you added NWSL Club names to your U9 teams.

Arlington: Yes we did.

NWSL Academy Committee: Well, I don't think we need to look any further at your application. NWSLNext admission is hereby granted.

More like, interesting a club is using NWSL names in place of traditional team designations like "A Team" "B Team", etc.

MLS licensed club name affiliations to youth clubs a couple of years ago.

It would make sense for NWSL to do the same. Free $$$ and a bunch of little girls running around with NWSL branding.

Accept, as stated above, it isn't very novel. It has nothing to do with the actual product on the field. It isn't even marketing because, well who cares, they're 8 years old and you would only see it in some GotSoccer tourney schedule.

You really like to over think these things and apply some agenda to the most benign things imaginable to have some deeper meaning.

PWSI U9 uses Nike and Swoosh as their team names.
VSA U9 uses Lavelle and Sauerbaum
GFR U9 uses Spirit
Loudoun U9 uses Freedom

It's just a cute way of naming teams at the youngest ages that frankly these naming conventions have been used for years.

No they are not changing the color names. This is for the younger ages only.

I think it just takes the focus off what level the kids are assigned to when they first leave rec, which is not to say that they and their parents do not figure it out. It’s hard to assess an 8 year old who may or may not have gotten good training and determine how ‘good’ they will be in 6 months. Doing weekly rosters would be great, but in order to card the kids they have to be divided. I imagine most clubs would rather not have to do that at U9 but try explaining that it is one big pool to their parents…
