My friend communicates like she thinks I'm an idiot or am suffering from short term memory loss.
I called her this morning and our conversation goes like this: Her: Hey! I'm en-route to Niagara Falls with Larla to watch the eclipse. Me: Oh cool! Do you think it will be fully viewable with all the clouds? Her: It should be from Niagara Falls because it's in the path of totality. I'm on my way there now. Me: I hope you have a good time! Are you guys coming back right away or staying overnight? Her: Well we might not be able to find a place because Niagara is in the path of totality and they declared a state of emergency due to the crowds. I'm with Larla. Me: Well have a wonderful time either way! Say hi to Larla for me. Her: Yeah, we're on our way to Niagara right now. The traffic is crazy. They're expecting so many people, they declared a state of emergency. It's in the path of totality. It's a silly little thing and I try not to let it bug me. But I feel like she thinks I'm stupid or something. |
|
No, she just repeats herself a lot. It's not about you.
|
| I am feeling like she's just distracted. That's about her, not you. |
| I think something is wrong w/ her memory, honestly. |
I thought it was just about her being distracted or repeating herself, but she'll also say things like, "You can pick up some snacks at the grocery store, they sell food there" or "There's a garbage can over there, you can put your garbage in that bin and they collect it" or "Let's do that on Saturday. That's the first day of the weekend." When I broke my middle toe recently, I mentioned that I'd taped it to the second one and she said "You can also tape it to the fourth toe. There's one on either side". I'm always like "Yeah...I know?" |
She smokes a lot of weed. Would that do it? |
| Sounds like she is the one with short term memory loss! |
|
I think you're wildly oversensitive and prone to seeing slights that aren't intended or even there. You sound like you might be insufferable to have a conversation with.
Do you have a lot of conflict with people? Think other people are idiots? |
No, I don't have conflicts with anyone. Or with her. I just find it a bit odd and wonder why she feels the need to explain very basic things and repeat them. |
This is some wild projection. OP mentioned a "petty annoyance" and here you are reading in, over-reacting and creating conflict. |
Oh come on, now. PP has since called her "friend" a druggie. Some friend PP is. Getting all worked up about something innocuous and slandering her friend. |
OP here, since when did I call my friend a "druggie"? I said she smokes weed. I have no problem with weed, but clearly you do since you're assuming I was making a judgment. I've heard that weed can cause issues with memory, that's all! |
| How old is your friend? Could this be the beginning of dementia? Other thought is that she has autism. My son who has autism says things like this - and I have to remind him not to say obvious things. |
| That's kind of weird. Is it some kind of OCD or ADHD or a strange sense of humor? |
