20 year old son using ketamine

I’m super scared and upset. He’s already a heavy marijuana user. I don’t know what to do. He’s in college

Is he taking it under a doctor's supervision for depression, or recreationally?
Anonymous
how did it come up, did he tell you? Does he want help? We need more info. Drugs in college are BAD, just everywhere.

Recreational he is into the music scene. He told me we have a good relationship but I’m concerned and talking to him about it sending info etc it’s scary to say the least but I’ve learned over reaction leads to them shutting down not sharing anything

He does not want claims he’s “careful” but that only goes so far

OP there is no way to sugar coat it; none of this is good. Heavy pot user, “into the music scene,” now this.

How is he staying in college? What are his plans for the summer and beyond school? Oh and where is his father?

That would scare me too. Talk to a doctor to understand ramifications better and to get advice.

OP I don't want to scare you but I used to be in the Bushwick scene and ketamine is really expensive and hard to source purely so dealers will often cut it with drugs that provide similar hallucinogenic and disassociative effects like meth and fentanyl. I can guarantee it is NOT pure ketamine he is consuming! At a bare minimum he needs to keep Narcan on him at all times, but this is kind of as risky and dangerous as drugs get and I would consider pulling out every bit of leverage you have to get him away from this environment before something bad happens.

Not OP but this is good information. Any advice on how to talk to him? OP, what did you say when he told you?

If he told you about it then he’s probably in deeper than he wants to be already.

Stop paying his bills, ask him to take a semester off, come home and receive professional help. Staying alive and healthy is more important than staying in college.

OP, I'm very sorry for you.
I say this as someone who lost a 26 year old nephew to fentanyl. He was also a heavy pot user, in the music scene all while in college.
I don't know how this gets solved when it's this far along.

Thank everyone yeah it’s new info just a few days for me I’m going to start talking to experts, yes his father, and work on a plan I’m absolutely sick about it and addiction runs in my family so I’ve seen a lot. Heartbreaking.

On school he’s smart, at a good college but that doesn’t matter if you get into drugs.

On purity/expense, did not know that . Thank you - adds to my sense of urgency

OP here. Yeah this is where my head is

Get him to a psychiatrist who specializes in addiction. They will drug test and if fentanyl in system they will try to get him in rehab. It needs to happen for his own safety.
