Moped to commute from Spring Valley to Tysons?

Anonymous
I have a nephew coming to DC to stay with us over the summer in Spring Valley and intern at Capitol One headquarters in Tysons. He wants to rent a moped to make that commute. Sounds crazy to me, but I wondered if anyone had an opinion? Would you advise a 20 year old to do this?

During DC summer thunderstorms?

Absolutely not. That is totally not safe.

Yep and it’s literally stops right at Cap One.

Thank you. I thought so but wanted some validation from others.

No way! That’s insane. Dealing with:

Crazy drivers
High heat and humidity
Beltway traffic
Rain/thunderstorms
Potholes
Moped breaking down

Etc…

Obviously no to the moped but that a rough commute via metro.

he'd have to shower when he gets there and also he might die

Maybe it would make sense to moped down Mass Ave to Foggy Bottom and pick up the metro? Probably just a bus would be easier. And he'll definitely get so sweaty.

Not sure a moped could even keep up with traffic on Beltway? Not at all safe or protected in an accident. With so many drivers distracted and on cell phones, not worth it imo.

Super bad idea.

I wouldn’t even use the beltway for that trip. Just go down Arizona to canal road, over chain bridge, and up 123 to the building. No beltway needed. But also a lot of traffic on 123, some it moving fast.

Mopeds are not allowed on the Beltway.
