Why is it so hard to find work

I want to do somewhat meaningful work but only work limited hours, like 9am-2pm. It is so hard to find part time work and every other position seems like volunteer work. I don’t want to work retail. Why is it so hard to find? I understand why so many SAHP resort to charity and committee work.

I hear you, I'm in the same spot. DH is a biglaw partner making $1 million+ per year so I don't need to make much money (say $200Kish per year) but it's so hard to find anything.

I stumbled on a job with (more or less) these hours but it was a friend of a friend that connected me. Start mentioning it in your daily conversations. You will likely need to be very flexible about pay, benefits and seniority.

Same! This is a great post! I’m 20 years into my career and I have advanced degrees. I still haven’t hit 6 figures! Wow, that poster is not grounded in reality.

It's you. You're the problem. You have all these demands that no one really needs ... except fast food and retail.

OP is wanting to dictate her hours, and doesn’t understand why that makes it “hard.” lol. And the “meaningful work” jobs are taken by people who are 1) qualified and 2) probably not dictating their own hours.

Op, look into remote assistant work—plenty of part time positions there, and some of them don’t care when you do the work as long as it gets done.

Why not substitute teach? You would be useful/meaningful, you could do as many or as few days as you wanted, and the pay is diddly squat but it sounds like that isn't important to you at this point.

Watch someone kid during that time so they can have a break. You can also be a host at a restaurant during lunch time.
Driver ubereats, uber.
There are also co-op opportunities to be with kids from 9-12.

One good job is Bank branches often hire 1130 an to 230 pm people for coverage during lunch rush when people in branch also need to eat
