I'd like to give a 40th birthday gift to someone who likes Champagne. I'm not a big Champagne drinker, so can anyone who is please give me a specific one to purchase for this gift? I'm comfortable spending up to $100.
Thanks! |
| I would go to your local Total Wine or other such store and ask for their advice. I did this once for a gift and they got me a really cool bottle of Champagne with a fun story attached to it that was right up my friend's alley. |
| Veuve is good. I went to a tasting and lathe taittinger was the winner, you can find bottles at all ranges and yours will be excellent |
Yes this. Tell them your price range, and ask for 2-3 options. |
| Bollinger Rose. |
| $100 won't get you anything special. For that price I'd rather get 4 bottles of Costco Champange. |
A bottle of Bollinger, Pol Roger or even Veuve Clicquot or Laurent Perrier makes a better gift than '4 bottles of Costco Champagne'. Yes, there are not particularly 'special', but they are nice-tasting champagnes (some very nice, depending on your tastes) and have that little bit of elevated feel that champagne brings. |
Veuve is overrated. |
I agree. I found it much too sweet. Prefer Dom Perignon. |

Ruinart vintage, non vintage is also good

Go to a wine expert like Addy Bassin's or Arrowine and let them know your price range and that you're getting a gift for someone who is very knowledgeable about wine, they'll take care of you.
This is my go-to move for wine gifts and every time they set me up with something that makes the person I'm giving it to say "wow how did you know about [X wine!?]" |
|
It depends on what you mean by “liking champagne.” Is this person a wine enthusiast/knowledgeable or someone (let’s face it: a woman) who enjoys the luxe ritual of drinking champers, bubbly, etc. |
lol. For only 4x the price |
