I’m currently a VP of comms at a small trade association. I have twenty years of experience in varying types of communications roles and about five in management. Salary is $250k. Good benefits. Good flexibility. I do a good job. I enjoy my work most of the time. But the required travel doesn’t work for my family, so I need to find something else.
I am in the very early stages of figuring things out, and need some outside brains. I need a good amount of flexibility. To me, that means the ability to flex my hours to leave at 4 pm twice a week (I can work late on other days), and the ability to WFH at least one day per week on a regular basis (understanding that some weeks this won’t be possible). I am pretty flexible on everything else. I can afford a pay cut, I can take a lower title, I can deal with a less generous health plan, I can do other work (meaning I could be an office manager, or EA). I might even be able to swing a certificate program or quick degree to get started in a new field. But I need somewhat flexible hours and no travel. What kinds of jobs should I be targeting? And what kind of salary should I be looking for? |

| The same kind of work at another employer who won't require the same hours/travel. You'll be hard pressed to make the same or even anywhere near the same income in a different field where you have no credible significant experience, so leverage your current position and skills to simply move laterally within the same industry to a different employer. |
