Anyone else bothered by this? It’s more and more common in DC to have a suggested tip at the register of 15 to 25% for carry out.
This really bothers me. It’s carry out, the tip should not be close to what you leave in a sit down restaurant. The tips and fees and higher pricing are out of hand, l eat out a few times a week but am seriously considering cutting back. |
| No it's fine. Restaurants won't survive otherwise. If they are doing takeout they are not buying alcohol, which is how a lot of places make money |
|
- skip tip and add a dollar to tip jar or set on counter
- select custom tip and enter whatever you want - skip tip entirely or lastly - throw your hamburger against the wall and shoot up the place ala Falling Down |
If they cannot survive that's on them. |
| My standard is 10% on take out. |
| Not bothered at all. I don't tip on takeout. |
Restaurants make a lot more on soft drinks. |

Not bothered at all. Happy to tip well, including on takeout. Places that do it well, with packaging, QC, etc are performing a service I appreciate. Even if they aren’t I’m happy to tip 20%-30% for delivery (on top of the absurd fees) to help make these jobs sustainable and keep places open.
I do not, however, like paying absurd levels of taxes. Let the generous and charitable among us do our thing and otherwise keep your hand out of my pocket. |
Well we’re not all Richie Rich, and even if we are, may object to “tip creep” on principle. |
If they want to forgo a $100 order for a $15 tip that’s their decision. |
|
I’ll tip a couple $ in cash if it’s a regular restaurant with eat in dining whete I would normally tip.
I’m not tipping at Panera for example. |
| HOW SCANDALOUS |
| It’s a suggestion. Calm your tits, Jason |
This. |
No, they don’t. |
