Scranton (accepted)
Tampa (accepted)
Fairfield (waitlisted)

Waiting on TCNJ (probably in) and BC (probably not in).

Studying marketing. Scranton shelled out a few bucks but don't know the exact figures.

The schools are all at the same level. None are more or less prestigious than the others. Pick the culture and weather she likes best.

I have been super impressed by TCNJ. I don’t know Scranton or Fairfield well but I have never heard bad things and I wouldn’t want to live in Florida.

So I would say

TCNJ if she gets in

Otherwise Scranton

Scranton isn’t worth the 20k differential in tuition over the others. No way.

Only met one TCNJ grad in my life, but she made an impression. Really smart/quick, and also nice. She also loved TCNJ (went on to get her law degree, currently a government lawyer).

If I were 18 again I'd head to Tampa. So I'm guessing the point of this post is that the OP is looking for arguments to keep their daughter closer to home.

I know what I will be called, but there is no way I personally would send a child, especially a female, to Florida at this point

I don't know about the other schools, but Tampa has a low freshmen retention rate and housing is issue (there is not a lot of it; and when you kid forced to move off campus - it is very expensive). Also, one of the Real Housewives of Jersey (i.e. Teresa something) will have one of her daughter's attending next year. But the campus is beautiful and the classes are small. Also, because so many students are OOS, you're kid will not feel left out (at least in a geographical sense). While the stats needed to get in are not too high, admission for Tampa has been incredibly competitive in the last few years (26% acceptance rate - similar to top 30 schools).

University of Tampa. Posters are ridiculous. 50% of Florida population is female, and they seem to do just fine and enjoying life moreso than Northern counterparts. Sunshine and pleasant surroundings are good for the soul. Scranton? No.

I know 3 current students or recent grads from Fairfield, Tampa and Scranton.
Fairfield family - very conservative socially. Lived in NY and followed Trump to Florida. Their son loved the school and the ROTC program there.
Tampa - for the small conversations I had with the young woman who recently graduated - a lot of wealth and if you are not from that background it may not be the right fit.
Scranton - current student is currently really enjoying her experience. She is 1st generation college and feels that they make it accessible.

If I were in your shoes -go to the admitted students days and make a decision.

Congratulations to your DD.

Why not? Tampa at 18 sounds amazing.

Even though Tampa might have a lot of wealthy kids there, they do give good merit. My DD got $18k this admissions cycle. Although, she will most likely go to UF.
