Madison HS vs Marshall HS - Rivalry Game 3/14

Anonymous
Big local NOVA HS rivalry game this past week. Marshall appears to have soundly beaten Madison 3-1 on Madison's pitch to break a nearly 10 year losing streak.

Was anybody at the game who can fill us in on how the game went?

I didn't realize any local schools had "big rivalry games". Maybe for more popular spectator sports like basketball and football, but the only people who attend or care about HS soccer games are the parents and players.

A 3-1 score is "soundly beaten" ?

According to my sources Madison was without a couple of their better players due to injury. I would also say that Madison's coaching situation is as bad as it has ever been. Not a lot of confidence by the players in the coaching right now. The team has great individually talented players, but they don't play like a team. The only goal scored by Madison was an incredible individual effort by one of our forwards to dribble through the center of the defense leading to a 1:1 put away.

Marshall on the other hand played more like a team. Marshall's defense was incredibly effective at limiting some of Madison's better individual players, particularly on the wings. Marshall has an incredibly fast forward who put pressure on Madison's back line all game, and several times was released on some incredibly great punting by Marshall's goalie.

The game tightened up towards the end as Madison spent most of the final minutes on Marshall's side of the field, but Marshall's defense and goalie repelled several shots, yielding nothing. It was a great game, despite the result.

Your 'sources'? LMAO. You are totally a parent wanting to brag about something.

No one is interested in local high school soccer games except for the parents and players.

Ha, I was thinking this might be a 10-0 score line, but in reality the score doesn't always indicate the dominance of one team on the field.

10-0 indicates dominance.

3-1= no dominance.

Dear Anonymous, Wouldn't most people on this board be either players, parents of players, or even coaches? Seems odd people call out others for talking about soccer on a soccer board. If there is a criticism to be made it would be that this board is a little too focused on ECNL clubs, which I gather is the only thing that matters because it impacts Mommy and Daddy's precious little Sally or Johnny who will never reach their true potential because the world is out to get them. I hope your kid won't be too destroyed if their soccer career doesn't pan out. Some people play the game because it is fun.

people are making fun of the parent who started this post wanting to brag about their kid, and then pretending that just random people talked about or cared about high school soccer games.

I thought it was a better post than most on here. I was interested. Kids playing for their HS soccer team who want to win but are not all trying to get to personal glory is far more interesting than the club team backstabbing that 90% of the posts seem to be.

I checked out this board since my kid started playing HS soccer (yes, I do understand from reading here that it’s for losers). He is not on track to be some type of professional soccer player. I never really thought about it before - I mean I don’t spend my time thinking about my kid being the next Einstein either. But now I am glad he doesn’t have that type of talent because this seems like an ugly pool to swim in. Maybe it’s true for all elite stuff. Going back to parenting my lovely average kid who likes to play soccer.

Depending on possession time and nature of the game...yes, it can be soundly beaten.

lol, " ... incredible individual effort by one of OUR forwards ..."

certainly a parent. more than bragging, the motivation appears to be bashing the coach.

You aren’t suggesting bashing coaches is some sort of prohibited topic on this board are you? Look at half the board posts and they are usually ECNL parents bashing their own coaches or some other club’s coaches. How is a parent commenting on the coach of a high school team any different? If anything the parent sounded like they were making an excuse for the loss. Big deal.
