Will my child be forced to repeat a grade (6th) if they have 35 absences (all excused)?

Will my child be forced to repeat a grade (6th) if they have 35 absences (all excused)? They have good grades and have made up missed work.

I’m sorry your kid is so ill to miss that much school

I think this is a question to ask the school. Consecutive absences are different than ones that are separate

No but they should if we are being honest

Oh please. There’s nothing taught in 35 days of 6th grade that parents can’t easily cover at home in half that time.

Why do you assume that op is teaching?

No but if there is a medical issue you might need to get a 504.

Basically your kid is missing a week of school every month. What is going on?

+1

OP did not say that the student is receiving homebound services. They've just missed 20% of school. Poor kid.

No, FCPS rarely holds kids back anymore; and if they do, they need parent permission. (Teacher)

No. My kid is on track to have even more absences than this because he gets sick every other week. But he still has straight As so there is no reason to repeat the grade.

Does your child have a medical diagnosis? It sounds like a 504 would be beneficial. That is an absurd amount of days for a child without health issues.

I have kids who easily miss 50 days of school every year (unexcused) and they always pass.
