If your DS is planning to start MLSNext in the fall, do you think their team is pretty set or do you think there will still be a lot of new to the club additions or movement within the club?

Team is already set. Coaches might look for specific position but from experience the coach already knows who they want.

So do you think attending ID sessions would be futile? Or have open positions been filled through kids practicing with the team during the season?

There is ALWAYS an open spot for an exceptional player. Typically, U13 is when you see a great deal of movement because it is an opportunity to make the jump from a local club to a larger platform (ECNL, MLS Next). Also, the roster expands for 11 v 11. My advice, having been through this age with an older one - keep showing up to ID sessions. You never know what opportunities will arise. The soccer community is small, and coaches also move along the way.

ID session is a good way to for a coach to gauge prospective players. If you stand out during the ID session, then they will invite you to come out to practices. If there is a club you are interested in, reach out to the coach and try to see if your DS can come to one of the practices.

I expect that U13 is a year with an above-average number of player moves/additions as boys who want to play MLS Next tryout for one of the limited MLS Next clubs in the area (i.e., Alexandria, Bethesda, and SYC).

By "planning to start" do you mean he's already committed to a club's MLSN team?

Yes, I’m assuming there are more than a few kids who already know whether they will make the cut or not.

FYI: VDA sent out this email this evening. Their first ID session was on Monday March 11,2024.

We began sending the first wave of offers out on Friday, March 8th and will continue through Tuesday, March 19th. After the first wave, remaining offers will be sent out on a rolling basis. Players who do not get selected to VDA for the 2024-2025 season will receive notification by April 1st.

This is OP. DS is not at an MLSNext club. I was asking abt the chances of getting on one.
