Dog barking at 530am

Anonymous
My neighbor is a renter and lets his dog out super early- it woke me at 530 this am. It's still out there barking. Is this part of neighborhood life or can I say something? One other neighbor has three dogs but they mostly stay inside or they bring them in when they bark.

It's illegal. Of course you should say something. If that doesn't get anywhere, reach out to the owners (if you have a good relationship with them). Or just call animal control.

Is it illegal or is this hyperbole!

Not hyperbole! Thank you so much! https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/code/sites/code/files/assets/documents/pdf/animal-noise.pdf

As a dog owner, I would never let my dog at at 530am and leave him there to bark. Not only is that inconsiderate to everyone else, but as another poster stated, it is also against noise ordinance laws (at least in Virginia).

I would first ask the neighbor nicely, but if they do not comply and keep doing it, yous are very much within your right to report them.

Do you know the owner? I have dealt with renter situations by contacting the owner.

That's a lazy owner. They should either walk them or remain out back with them if they are barkers.

We have a dog and we would never leave her outside, barking—not even in the middle of the day. I think you should try talking to your neighbor. Escalate to the landlord if that doesn’t work.

Anyway, it's super annoying and against the law. The police will come out and cite if you call.

it's relevant because OP could go to the landlord. What's your problem?

Contact landlord and make a noise complaint to the police.

Are you in Fairfax County or are you trolling, OP?

Don’t bother asking the neighbor. I did this, nothing changed, and then I called animal control. I got a nasty voice mail from him calling me an a$$hole and whatnot for involving animal control.

It’s definitely against the noise ordinance in Montgomery County.

My neighbors do this, although their dog is usually out barking at 6:30 a.m., not 7:30 a.m. They are very nice people, so I don't understand why they do this. The barking especially annoys my husband, but we just try to ignore it. If you are one of those dog owners, please don't leave your dog outside barking in the early morning and late at night.

If you are one of those dog owners, why do you do this? You have to hear your dog barking, right?

Just call the animal control. If you talk to the dweeb pet owner that will ignor you, most likely they will know who’s car to key when you escalate.
