Oscars fashion 2024

Anyone want to talk about the clothes last night? One trend I hated is the enormous sleeves onDa’Vine Joy Randolph and on Arianna Grande. Grande looked like she was wearing deployed airbags and I felt bad for Randolph’s seat neighbors. Those sleeves took up a full seat on either side.

Liked seeing Margot Robbie in something that wasn't pink.

Lupita Nyong'o looked stunning in Armani.

I'm scrolling through The Cut's coverage now and a lot of the dresses are kinda boring but there are some I really adore

I've never seen anything like this one before

I feel like the styling could be better but I'd change nothing about the dress

I can't stop looking at this!

I did not like Emily Blunt's dress. I also think she should stop wearing so many neutrals especially when she makes her hair so blonde. She looks so washed out. Her face also had a weird Mary Kate Olsen look to it,not sure if that's weight loss or surgery.

I thought overall a pretty good night with most people looking good. I still hate the trend of the deep plunge neckline that looks like a piece was cut out of the middle, and wish that look would die. And, as I say at every awards show, a lot of women looked like their dress needed to be hiked up half on inch over their chest -- the designers seem to often cut it so that it looks like it's about to slip off at any second.

Mary Steenburger and Ted Danson win the prize for couple we'd move like to be/move next to in our older years. They look fabulous and totally comfortable in their own skin. Please no one tell me that they secretly hate each other.

Jamie Lee Curtis also looked great, showing how to do it as a woman of a certain age in Hollywood.

Zendaya wins for best old school glamour.

I wish Emma Stone would not wear her hair like Wednesday Adams. It almost makes her unattractive (an impossible feat). Her dress was fun.

Not a fan of Chris Hemsworth's wife's dress -- looks like something to wear clubbing.

I thought America Ferrara looked awesome and I loved the nod to Barbie.

But I have to give it to Zendaya for the win. She looked amazing head to toe.

Ariana Grande’s dress was a nod to her upcoming movie. I loved it and I think it’s fun that dressing in character is becoming a thing.

Agree!

Also loved the light blue dresses

Have to add that Michelle Yeoh look FANTASTIC. And I think Jodi Foster looked good too, although that's a different look for her. All in all, a really good night for the over 60 female crowd.

I think the designers are also starting to do way better with larger sized women as well --- several really great dresses.

I didn't like Emily Blunt's dress, either. I don't know how you make that woman look washed out and plain, but there you go.

Zendaya is so stunning that it's almost unreal. That woman wears clothes like no one else.

I liked Florence Pugh even with the weird straps

the weird straps on Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt totally distracted me; I didn't get the effect (futuristic supposedly?) and it just looked so ill fitting on otherwise slim and fit bodies.

Florence Pugh is beautiful but she seemingly can't find a good stylist.

I agree that I like Florence Pugh's dress. Normally I would think that sort of thing is too fussy and self-absorbed, but she pulls it off -- she has a sort of punk rock vibe to her, and manages to make this look both Oscar appropriate and also fit her look. I'm not loving the platform sandals with it though, and it makes the hemline hit weird. I'd tell her that she's too cool for platforms -- they always look so fashion-victimy.

I think an overall theme for the night was modern chain mail. Lots of dresses with that sort of structured sparkley feel to them.

This (Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior haute couture)

Reminds me of the famous Dior Junon gown from the 1940s. Natalie Portman wore a recreation in Cannes. Miley Cyrus wore another in 2009 to the Oscars.

I draw the line at nakedness. Come on Cena. No need for that. I know there's a lot of pressure to push boundaries and grab headlines, but we need some limits!!!
