5yo wants to go to the Ben & Jerry in Vermont for his birthday .. what’s it like?

He recently heard about the factory from a friend. Now it is all he talks about and he would like to go for his birthday. Logistically this drive is not a problem for us and hotels seem well priced for the region.

Is the factory a fun trip?

I wouldnt go for the sole purpose of the tour. It's interesting and you get to try some ice cream, but its not that fun or exciting that it is worth the trip just for that. That being said, there is a lot in the general area that you can incorporate into the trip.

It fun if you happen to drive by. Not worth it just for that. We drove thru on our way home from Canada.

Agree with above posters. It was fine, the day they were there they weren’t even actively making ice cream so it was not hugely exciting.

Vermont is amazing though, and there’s a ton to do if you make the trip.

If you go book in advance. We tried to go in December on a day too rainy to ski, and it was booked.

Lots of kid friendly stuff to do in Vermont, although you didn't give his age. Better in summer or fall than spring, which is mud season in that part of VT. Or of course winter if you are skiers. it is very close to Stowe.

If it’s just an ice cream factory and you’re in the DMV, maybe the Turkey Hill Experience in PA? It could be a day trip.

I think it’s so cute that your 5 year old is talking about this nonstop.

Was going to suggest this. Perfect for a 5 year old and 2 hours away.

PP here. But it isn't a factory tour it is an "experience" so basically a childrens ice cream museum on how ice cream is made with a lot of free ice cream and you can pay extra for the ice cream "class" where you mix your own flavors.

wow. Would you really travel to Vermont for a kid’s 5th b-day? What do you then do for 6th?

+1

I have to disagree with pp. We've been to the factory several times, and our 3-7 year olds all loved it. W le planned our trip in advance and our kids had a great time. That said, we have the kind of kids who consider seeing horses and cows out a car window exciting.

It's not an adult trip. But your son isn't an adult. Combine it with some farms, hiking, he'll have a great time. It's also really cheap compared to other vacation destinations.

Do Clark's trading post in NH another day.

We went when my youngest was 5. Was not worth it. It was so crowded and not that exciting. Vermont is amazing - but my kids had waaaay more fun on other trips (like visiting the cenotes in Mexico, skiing literally anywhere, or even something like Hershey park!)

This. It's really not that great and then you have to exit through the gift shop which can be maddening

You are going down a dark path.

Indulging the whim of a five year old tells me that you will have spoiled kid.

He will be more excited about trips and gifts as he gets older if you do not treat him like an emperor.

Honestly. He can have (and will enjoy)
a normal (local) 5 year old’s party.

Is it painful being this sanctimonious? I mean for you. Obviously it is for the rest of us.
