Current junior at FCPS large high school. Captain and starter of her varsity sport, but not a lot of other extracurriculars and not a candidate for D1 or sports scholarships or anything like that. Consistently has gotten 5 A’s and 2B’s each school year. 1250 SAT. Will have 8 AP’s. Prefers a smaller school.

Honestly not enough info to give advice.

What kinds of majors interest her? STEM, business, economics, international?

Weather preference?

Distance from home?

How much could you pay?

Major: Undecided but not STEM. Likely business or pre-law
No weather preference
Prefer Eastern half of US, but not more specific
Donut Hole Family, but we've got a lot saved in 529.

William and Mary is 53, no way that is an option I don't think.

Apply to schools that a lot of other kids from your HS are not applying to…

Elon (show a ton of love)

Drop the SAT and go TO. She will be fine T50-100
Look for schools that have her intended major.

UMW for sure.

I'd look at both OOS small publics -- SMCM, TCNJ, and LAC's with good merit. I know kids who have gotten good aid from Roanoke, Goucher, McDaniel, Wooster, Allegheny, Juniata, and Washington College

I don't know VA schools, but consider Dickinson, Ursinus, SMCM, MHC (might be somewhat of a reach, but great school for training leaders), Muhlenberg, Juniata.

If you can swing it financially, apply Wake ED (always been TO).

Visit/show demonstrated interest (website/visits/webinars/AO)

Spend time on the app now.

The people who just drop the 50 to 100 schools are nuts. Op, you need to talk to selectivity with a college counselor, not go off U.S. news rankings. Those stats will not be good enough for Tulane, NE, Miami, or Clemson oos. Think Syracuse, Delaware, JMU, maybe VTTech for a less competitive major.

This grades are not good enough for Wake, ED or not, not even close.
