Family meet up in NYC

Anonymous
Mom and Dad and twenty something kids. Honestly we are not an NYC family but it is the only place we can all get to easily and we have very little opportunity to spend time together. Recommendations for where to stay? Our vacations usually involve hiking and outdoors..so this will be different of course but its NYC so I feel like we should be able to plan a great weekend. We took them once before when they were younger. Broadway show and Ellis Island that time. One is very afraid of heights so no high building views...but other thoughts?

Should add this will likely be a 4 day weekend. Kids have very little leave time at new jobs.

Go to the Hudson Valley and go hiking.

It doesn't sound like you want to spend 4 days in NYC and there's nothing wrong with that.

Nothing to add except that when i first read your post I THOUGHT YOU HAD TWENTY CHILDREN BUT YOU COULDN'T KEEP COUNT.

(Your children are in their twenties. You don't have approximately twenty children.)

What do you like: art, food, military history, science, music, architecture?

For outside stuff, Brooklyn or New York botanic garden (or Staten Island ferry to snug harbor). If the weather is warm there are places to go kayaking. Chelsea piers, city island, little island, and the high line (it's not very high off the ground) all have active/outdoor things. The cloisters is medieval art, but in a park so might be a good fit.

The high line. Maybe little island? We also are more outdoorsy and enjoyed both of those along with Ellis Island.

Oh yes, the botanical gardens are also very nice!
