Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| This is not a holiday. I actually don't mind and actually like non-holiday long weekends for end of quarter or teacher planning. I don't like random days off in the middle of the week that is not even a holiday. I had no idea we had off until now. |
| Presidential primary - schools are usually closed because usually there is more interest in it. |
| Voting. It is super Tuesday. |
| Presidential primary. Large turnout expected because in Virginia you don’t have to register as a Democrat or Republican and many Dems are going to vote repub to get Trump off the ticket. |
| Schools always close for voting OP so they just made it a professional development day anyway. Chill out. |
It’s for voting and it was decided back in September. |
YUP!!! |
| Schools are polling places and close for the election in November. They didn't used to close for primaries but the last primary was so contentious, there were fears of violence. So they closed schools, in a last minute decision. And this year is the last primary redux. Do they need to? Probably not. But maybe there could be an incident. So they are closing, just in case. |

Maybe pay attention a little better. If you say what school you’re from, I’m guessing we could find multiple newsletters announcing this. It was announced last fall when the Board of Elections asked FCPS to close the schools on March 5. https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-week-october-18-2023 And here it is in DCUM in October: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1163077.page |
Op doesn’t even realize Tuesday is a voting day. Safe to say she’s generally clueless |
Really? I’ve known since we first heard about it back in September. It’s been on my calendar for months now. Wake up! |
It's not a random day. It's the presidential primary. Are you an American citizen? (I hope your answer is "no".) |
My mail in ballot only has one party to choice from
