APS plans to cut 19 positions at Syphax. What happens to the people in those jobs? |
Reassigned into other vacancies or on the job market. What do you expect would happen to people whose jobs are cut? |
I went through this in another district. We had an early retirement incentive and a lot of people left. They then shuffled people around. Then top people who realized they were likely to be eliminated left for other jobs. Lastly, there were a handful notified as being eligible for layoffs if no other positions could be found.

What positions are they?? |
They find jobs where they actually have to do work. |
The SpEd compliance position has been cut. |
Interesting. Thanks, PP. What is that position, please? (Someone who actually monitors sped programs for compliance? Or a fancy title for a paper pusher?) Or… Is it being cut because they created six new jobs instead? |
They’re supposed to make sure APS is in compliance with sped law. Important job but parents have complained about the person in this job for years. She lies about what happens in meetings. |
They need to cut many more than 19! Start with the entire DEI staff. |
Sadly, I agree. DEI is not showing value for the amount spent. We’d be better off investing those dollars on in-school supports and truancy prevention than a couple of overpaid administrators. |
PLEASE |
How many FTE DEI staff do we pay for? |
Seriously? They find a new job. Hopefully not within APS. |

Lots of cuts to be found on here. Also, from page 288 of the budget doc, apparently these are the major services offered by the 7.5 non school based FTEs in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: 1. Division-wide professional learning on implicit bias and other DEI topics 2. Support and direction to DEI Influencers and DEI coordinators 3. Targeted school based professional learning offerings These are not services that require 7.5 non school based employees to implement! Pretty sure 2-3 people could handle that. https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2024/02/FY-2025-Superintendents-Proposed-Budget-Document.pdf |
Or how about just give money to the schools to do their own PD at a fraction of the cost? All of these people just come up with mandatory trainings for us teachers to take. |
