Pickleball > Soccer?

Is it me or is there an explosion of pickleball indoor options in the area?

Maybe colleges will begin giving out pickleball athletic scholarships. Easy money, just make a youth league that will bring pickleball scouts to showcases and make sure the athletes point to the crest on their chest during photos.

All joking aside, pickleball is picking up steam. Can't even get good indoor options for soccer around here but here we are with all these indoor pickleball courts. Can't even get people to convert tennis courts to streetball courts/futsal courts.

Wait until the summer when all the Nimbys figure out that pickelball is loud and super annoying.

Are you new to the area? Pickleball been a thing for some time here. Although I’m not a fan. It does not have enough intensity and lots of rules. But tons of old folks love it.

You must be the new one, just checkout YouTube and TikTok. There’s an explosion of young players.

Seriously though, I was not expecting this thread but does anyone on here have a pickle ball court in their neighborhood? If so ow annoying is it? There is conversation about doing that in our neighborhood and I am not sure its what we should do based on reports I have heard, but I've never been close to anyone playing either.

The noise, be prepared,

Our HOA is run by 50, 60 and 70 year olds. I think pickle ball appeals to the older age groups. They know what pickleball is but they have no idea about FUTSAL. They easily voted to add a pickleball setup in our tennis court area. Funny thing is no one uses it. I am sure I would be met with resistance if we proposed some futsal goals.

Most kids don't get significant scholarship money to play soccer in college. Do you think pickleball is suddenly going to become a revenue sport?

It’s loud and the sound travels quite a bit. I would not want it in my neighborhood. Our country club (not in the DC area) has tons of courts and when they’re full it’s really loud.

Our DD does HP Elite out at the CYA Fieldhouse and they now rent out half the place for Pickleball. Super annoying!

Already happening - Utah Tech (I know that's not a DCUM favorite!) has offered pickleball scholarships. I wouldn't be surprised to see collegiate pickle start to take off.

Tennis players can learn to play and get good at Pickleball very quickly. While someone who only plays Pickleball will have a very difficult time learning to play tennis.
