Took a new job last year and when offer was made I was told I will be managed by the supervisor I liked staff. This is a first time manager with huge influence at Leadership level.
The challenge is they are guarded don't share anything they do, don't help me find opportunities and are very quick to put me in my place. If things are not to their standards I am given a lecture immediately. I dislike this controlling behavior. But I do like what I do. So far I keep communication professionals and learning to share what I need to. Mirror their behavior and try to find more opportunities with the team leader who was the person I wanted to work for. My current manager is aware of the work I do for their boss. Anything else I should do? I would like to grow in this team or within the organization. |
| This is not very clearly written, hard to say what’s going on. But your boss sounds problematic and you should leave. |

If you want to “grow with this team and org” as you say, then you better figure out how to get along with your boss, especially since they have alot of influence as you say.
What kind of opportunities are you trying to find, what does that even mean? That sounds like you’re looking for other jobs? That’s probably why new boss is feeling guarded with you, they don’t trust you. Why should they? You need to be open yourself and build a genuine positive relationship with your new boss, and they will start opening up to you. But you have to do the work. |
| Have you tried to undermine your new boss and go around them since you never wanted to report to them in the first place? That’s a great way to make them not trust you or like you. |
