My teenage son is on Concerta and we used to always have a small stockpile as he didn't take it on long weekends and many Saturdays.
However, lately he's been taking it 7 days per week. How many days shy of 30 can his doctor call it in? We have Blue Cross. (I know there are continual shortages and that getting the med can be another story entirely but we've had fairly good luck with this as he takes the brand name) |
| My insurance won’t fill until we are at day 26, so that’s when I have the doctor write the prescription. |

I usually request the refill about 8 days out and then it just sits at the pharmacy. I’ll get a text from CVS saying the day it can be filled and so I go to the pharmacy either the day before it can be filled or the morning that it can be and start trying to charm my way to a filled script.
My son is on Vyvanse and I’ve been paying the much higher copay for brand name. |

I posted about this last month. For us a pharmacy would fill it exactly 4 weeks later.
However, once I found it in stock somewhere (a few days before I was due to refill) I had my doctor call in the prescription. The pharmacy said while they couldn’t fill it yet, they’d hold it for me until a few days later when I was allowed to pick it up. |

Not sure of the exact day but it’s definitely no more than 3/4 days at the *most*. It’s caused issues when running scheduled to run out on a friday/saturday only for insurance to jerk me around about needing yet another prior auth. But of course doctors aren’t there to send in prior auths in on the weekend and insurance companies go by “business days”.
And I only find this out because I have to wait almost immediately until running out before they even go to fill the script and run insurance. |
Did you have him try Generic? I switched from taking brand name for years, to generic a few months ago and am pleasantly surprised to have not noticed any difference. Although I know YMMV and manufacturers are better than others. |
| np - generic vyvanse is hard to come by right now so most are trying to just get brand and pay extra. ymmv indeed. |
