Help me get fired with severance

Job is awful. 200K severance on the line. Can’t quit. Can’t do anything egregious as that would be termination for cause. Already doing bare minimum and boss clearly dislikes me but won’t pull trigger.

How do you know you would get 200k severance? Is this company policy? Why does boss have it out for you? File a complaint with HR and see if they will send you on your way with the 200k to make it all go away.

To get the severance you would need to be laid off, not fired, no? And if fired could not even get unemployment.

I'd HIGHLY recommend finding another job. That is the thing you have control over.

Right now you are flirting with firing for cause/non-performance.

You could ask to negoatiate a package. They probably don't want to pay you the 200K are waiting you out. Maybe you could meet somewhere in the middle?

It’s written into my contract. I don’t know why boss has it out for me but he’s the owner. HR has no power.

How much do you get paid? Think about how many months worth of pay is the $200K. If it were me I would just keep doing my job and let the things you hate about the job just roll off your back.

Do your contract provide that the breaching party is entitled to recover attorney fees? If not and if the owner is an AH he might just breach the agreement anyways and you'd be out a considerable amount of money to sue him to recover the severance package. Of course the owner would have to pay too but they might be in a better position to weather the expense. Just something else to think about.

Apologies if my OP was unclear. I consider performing my job duties the bare minimum, and am doing so.

Ha. I know someone who has been doing this for over five years. We are not going to give him a dime. His bare minimum is noted, and he will not be getting raises or bonuses. Stalemate.

Your best move is to find a new position.

You need to negotiate like Dr. McKnight. She was kinda fired/kinda asked to resign and got $800K severance. Hire her lawyer.
