Ground lamb

Question for you food experts - I have ground lamb thawing in the fridge. Do you think I could throw it in with an onion and tomato sauce to make a sort of lamb bolognese, or will it be too gamey?

I would love that, but I love lamb and don't find it too gamey in just about anything. NY Times cooking has a recipe for pasta with ground lamb ragu.

I am also a lamb lover, so this would be a big heck ya for me.

Maybe look at some bigger spices to keep up with the lamb, instead of a subtle bolognese do more of a greek style. I make something similar to this recipe, but JUST the lamb meat sauce. Serve over mash or with pasta.

Ok I’m going to try it!

Ya we make lamb or bison bolognese and it’s great. Lamb meatballs is another option.

It will be delicious! Go for it!

I love lamb, and I love bolognese, and I think what you are describing would be fine, but I'd choose to do something that highlights the flavor a little more? I would worry that in a bolognese the lamb flavor that is so delicious would get lost and it would taste like regular bolognese.

OP, just sharing if you want another idea for next time. My family loves this ground lamb recipe:

So I found rice paper in my pantry so I’m switching to a caramelized lamb roll with some sautéed veg added and gochujang sauce… I usually make the rolls with caramelized pork so who knows how it will go!

I think we eat ground lamb once a week now that Aldi carries it. Almost always meatballs or kebabs though.
I’m eager to hear how your Bolognese goes.

Ina has baked pasta with lamb ragu recipe, as well as a pastitsio - both of these are similar to what you're describing, and quite delicious.

I'd make a shepherd's pie, but the Ina recipe sounds interesting.

Bumping this to see where they have the best ground lamb prices. Trader Joe’s has gotten expensive!
